John Laughland is a British philosopher and historian. He serves as the Director of Studies at the Institute of Democracy and Cooperation in Paris. He is the author of A History of Political Trials from Charles I to Saddam Hussein; Schelling versus Hegel: from German Idealism to Christian Metaphysics; Travesty: the Trial of Slobodan Milosevic and the Corruption of International JusticeThe Tainted Source: the Undemocratic Origins of the European Idea and The Death of Politics: France under Mitterrand.

For many years John worked as an independent commentator writing on international affairs for the British and international press, including The Spectator, The Guardian, The Mail on Sunday, The Times, Die Welt,  and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. He is currently a research member of the Centre of the History of Central Europe at the Sorbonne.

I first met John in 2001 at a conference in London (described in Financial Coup d’Etat), after reading The Tainted Source. He addressed events in Eastern Europe as well as the issues of centralized power without accountability in the formation of the European Union. It was one of the most insightful presentations I have  seen yet on the political centralization underway.

I will be talking with John about current events in Europe, including the geopolitics of currency and sovereign debt wars and what they mean to the future of the European Union. I will ask John to update us on his analysis described in his article this summer, “Why the Euro Will Fail.”

I will be covering Tuesday’s elections and the latest developments in the financial markets in Money & Markets and answering your questions in Ask Catherine. If you are a subscriber to The Solari Report, please post your questions at the cart.

In Let’s Go to the Movies, I will review a new documentary which documents the officially sanctioned theft of trillions through a fraudulent US mortgage and mortgage securities market, Inside Job.
