Hi Solari folks:

My mom and I were traveling in the White Mountains this weekend and saw lots of signs in people’s yards: No to the Pass. They were talking about this: Live Free or Fry

New Hampshire produces more electricity than it uses and sells the excess to other New England states.  NSTAR wants to bring power from Hydro Quebec, which would be cheaper than the locally produced power and put them out of business.  They’re using the “green” aspect of the power generation as an excuse to do it, apparently.

The power lines would be massive, and unhealthy for living things: Childhood Leukaemia Risk Doubles Within 100 metres of High Voltage Power Lines

I’m a member of my town’s group to try to encourage sustainable living, and I’m wondering if our encouragement to opt for the generation of green power on our electric bills has inadvertently caused problems for our neighbors in New Hampshire because of ignorance on our part.

Best,

You sure can, and I will let my town group know. If you have more info on this, please point me in the right direction because MCAN, the consortium of towns in Massachusetts that are trying to do the responsible thing, is likely encouraging all member groups to select the green option. I want to get as much info to these groups as I can. I will put this up as a forum on our group’s website.

This makes me wonder how many other things we’ve been encouraging have been in error.

By the way: do you know the story about the baby carriage? It is a perfect illustration of the dangers of compartmentalization.

It’s wartime. People work at the baby carriage factory, but they’re not permitted to actually buy the carriages because of the war. So a father to be sneaks out the necessary parts, department by department, in order to assemble one at home, in secret. But after he and his wife assemble what they expected to be a baby carriage, they find that they have a machine gun instead.
