The Solari Report – 22 Jan 2009

Michael Corleone: “My father is no different than any powerful man, any man with power, like a president or senator.”
Kay Adams: “Do you know how naive you sound, Michael? Presidents and senators don’t have men killed.”
Michael Corleone: “Oh. Who’s being naive, Kay?”
— The Godfather, Part I

A true family is a group of people who invest in each other’s skills and future. Within such a family, no person is expendable.

Throughout history, financial wealth has been organized around families.  Many of the powerful institutions in our society, in fact, represent intergenerational pools of capital -– for example, the Bechtel Corporation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the Glenmede Trust Company

If we are to build a strong economy, it will be made up of strong families. Either families in the traditional sense, or families that we create. Many of us are members of families that, like the Corleone family in The Godfather series, have been torn apart by the manipulation of our ambition, greed, and naivete by powerful financial and business interests. Husbands and wives are turned against one another. Children and parents disappoint each other and grow apart. Sibling rivalry threatens family interests.

Most of us assume that The Godfather films — Part I, Part II, Part III — are movies about an organized crime family.  The reality is that we all live inside The Godfather’s world. The Godfather series has much to teach us about navigating in our current environment:

  • The double-binds that families and businesses face in the real economy
  • The stresses that this places on marriages and children
  • How we can reduce the risk of being manipulated and turned against one another
  • The important role played by churches, foundations and tax-exempt organizations in controlling and managing intergenerational wealth
  • The interconnectedness of street crime to the board rooms of global corporations to the financial markets that trade their securities

In this week’s Solari Report our focus is on “Let’s Go to the Movies.” I have prepared a special report on how The Godfather series can help you understand the risks you and your family manage today and what this means to building real wealth in your household and business.

  1. Not in the same heavy-hitter league as the movies mentioned here already, but the Brit TV series “Yes Prime Minister” (and its earlier incarnation “Yes Minister”). Very funny, very clever. Just type those names into YouTube search box. I particularly recommend the bitter-sweet The Whiskey Priest

  2. ‘Knuckledraggers’ is the slang depreciating term that CIA types call the operatives who must really do some of the hard things the CIA types think up. Term comes from concept sort of, “Anyone who does this must be a gorilla sort with arms so giant that their knuckles drag.”

I am receiving so much help from a person who had to do some truly unspeakable things. He has the biggest heart I have ever seen. It is…., (good Lord where to find an adjective here…!!!).. ‘amazing’ or ‘startling’ or or or…, ‘XXX-something’ to compare this person’s heart and depth and the amount he really does for others with the religious or ‘new age’ types who look down on him. So when you said, “…most generous and most under-appreciated people in our country come from this category, “ all I could say to myself is ‘yes’ ‘yes’ but you must see first hand to understand.

I have been quite a fan of you, as I know we went through some of the same horrors. You have learned things that I must learn. So with this part of the thread strongly feel an inner connection and bond with you.

  3. Michael:

    You are welcome.

You said: “Most of my help is coming from those with strange/deep military experience. (‘Knuckledraggers’)”

I have never heard that word. I will check it up. I have also had help from this quarter. Some of the finest, most generous and most under-appreciated people in our country come from this category.

    Catherine

  4. Catherine,
Oh wow. To be clear I am not saying that I understand all you just said above. I do know it ‘jives’ with me. I also know the concepts here are to a great extent beyond words.

You stated, (quote), “…There is a perspective…”. I agree and feel I am on my way, perhaps even firmly on my way, to it. This takes ‘tempering’. The very 3-D mechanics of that ‘tempering’ from whence we get the concept into psychology is not understood. You place a blade from the greatest heat to the greatest cold over and over. You are not doing the same thing again and again with each transfer. From the furnace to the ice-water, from the furnace to the ice-water…, again and again but each time is ENTIRELY different. I have seen a Civil War saber, very sharp, be able to bend so far that the tip nearly touched the handle. (Of course took a strong guy!) Still from physical ‘tempering’ it is so seeming strange that what makes the sharpest edge also makes it the most bendable/malleable/adjusting.

You also stated, “…An advantage is taking the time to map out how all the time and money works. That means living through a great deal of betrayal and not taking it personally…”. Boy, do I understand. It was my ‘mapping knowledge’ that put me suddenly in a dangerous game way above my head/emotional-maturity. I lived through very many betrayals taking them personally and undergoing great pain and leading to more errors. Slowly. Meaning a ‘slow’ slowly…., very slowly…., I started to get beyond, at least a bit, taking betrayal personally and experience it as more of a natural process. I could say this transfer is what I am undergoing now. Most of my help is coming from those with strange/deep military experience. (‘Knuckledraggers’)
Now I am seeing your ‘perspective’ concept. It is getting out of yourself, seeing yourself as almost something else…, not ‘personally/egoly’. (Well, still a better word than egoish, lol.)
Your next sentence was, (quote), “…I had someone with a history in CIA covert operations tell me once about the hard times in this process….”It is like a wave…just let it roll over you.” That was some of the best advice I ever had. If you can simply grow through things, you can learn much.” (unquote)
Yes, instead of swimming in the wave I would get angry at it and waste my energy trying to ‘hit it back’ for being a wave.

Yes, now more I am able to accept my own death and feel more purpose for the breaths I have left. And also more and more I see that ‘power of’ is so much more than ‘power over’. In fact it is here that the thesis is confused with the antithesis. ‘Power of’ and power over’ are more opposites than just ‘different directions’.

I could see you had this perspective early in the way you described cab drivers and elevator operators drawn to helping you. I had a bit of that too but late, not early like you.

Catherine, thank you ever so much for this.

  5. Catherine..

Not to sound stupid..but what is Short-sea? I have never heard of it. You recommend any worthwhile and credible works regarding geopolitics? My powers of deduction..let’s say are..un-developed. Just putting a historical time line on the “evolution” of the American way of life could entail a masters degree in American and World Economic History. But you have ridden, should I say, are riding the tiger. Do you not fear for your life? Or is your voice so dim, “they” have no fear enough to martyr you.

The Solari principle is to me a matter of getting back to basics. I am through with ersatz sophisticates. By the way, if you happen to know any women who are interested in putting the Solari Index to the test, you could forward my email addy to them. 😉 Just kidding. It is hard to assess blame for the mess in which we find ourselves as convoluted as it all is. Just pick a headline, if the mortage crisis isnt enough. Simplicity really is a virtue. Moms and Dad, brother and sisters, Aunts and Uncles…basics. Most of us are pretty darn average.

Lots of commentators seem to think its about money citing the scads of counterfeit dollars being printed then coming up unaccounted for. Trouble is, most of them don’t believe its counterfeit. In my view, its about power. Remember Jesus’ famished after a 40 day fast in conversation with you know who? 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Remember principalities and powers? Oppression..coming home to roost in the middle class? We will have much to learn from our black brothers and sisters.

The old saw, hindsight has 20-20 vision, so true. I wish I had bought 10 acres when I was a young man. You know where I am going with that.

That’s an easy leap for believer, huh. But for hard nosed pragmatists, the end justifies the means. The whole worldly scenario is just one nest of tangled and knotted twine. Its enough to drive one to become a survivalist.

Chuck Colson has a new book out. Wouldn’t he be close enough to the machinations of government to be aware what you are speaking? What I am getting at is, aren’t there others like yourself either in or out of government so angry they would be writing the truth?

    Sorry for rambling.

    God bless you.

  6. Ok, this wasn’t the greatest movie, so many people probably didn’t see it nor did they miss much, at least in the way of entertainment. But, everyone who missed it DID miss some very important potential clues as to what our ruling masters really are capable of doing. I am talking about the latest 2008 Incredible Hulk with Liv Tyler and Ed Norton. Here are some incredibly key points I think it conveys:

    – the ability of our govt. to track vast amounts of data through the Internet to pinpoint our location and build a personal profile on each one of us in a matter of seconds (b/c of our willingness to use credit cards, enter frequent shopper programs, use devices with GPS, etc. etc.)

    – highlights the very real attempts at building a Super Soldier and likely abuse and violation of all sorts of human rights

    – presents the idea of the government “owning” people, if they participated in any way, shape or form in some mad experiment

    – it presents a brilliant scientist helping the army by offering his great intellect without moral obligation to its potential MUCH greater negative ramifications (not Banner, but the character who has studied the Hulk and failed to re-create him)

and of course, there’s always the name of the super-soldier creature generated to battle the Hulk in the end…the Abomination. not to be confused with our REAL modern day Obama-nation.

Anyway, something to consider for upcoming “Let’s Go To The Movies”.

Keep up the great shows. Very informative and inspiring. They make us feel a little less “on our own”.

  7. in the rainforest, there are a trillion trillion subdivisions of the simple thing water. on this blog there a trillion trillion different ways money/ideas subdivide. is there an advantage here?

    no.

  8. Michael

I don’t know if there is such a thing as a handbook.

There is a perspective. I would say the most valuable training was being raised by an African-American woman and finding deep roots in that culture. This included growing as a Christian and training in Spiritual Warfare with Christians with great faith and a deep understanding of both evil and “the system.”

An advantage is taking the time to map out how all the time and money works. That means living through a great deal of betrayal and not taking it personally. I had someone with a history in CIA covert operations tell me once about the hard times in this process….”It is like a wave…just let it roll over you.” That was some of the best advice I ever had. If you can simply grow through things, you can learn much.

Ultimately, it helps to have a purpose and to understand that death is not the worse thing that can happen. Power is something that comes from within. It is a perspective. I have always had it. Perhaps there is such a thing as genetic memory or reincarnation.

As to the Godfather, I grew up in Philadelphia and had respect for the Italian mafia. Things are indeed more complicated than they seem.

Re possible mind control series. Serious subject. Head of Medicine in Finland, (similar position as our Surgeon General) stated mind control tech now greatest threat to democracy.

Though now know was treated lightly as to what could have happened, my attack on the night of April 13th, 1984 following interrogation at Groton Sub Base unfortunately led to an attack on visiting Soviet mathematician, Sergi Koslov. He was the guy who ‘went nuts’ at Dullas. This was the only case ever, to my knowledge, where Soviets (through TASS), made open accusation about use of these technologies. (I do not count the Moscow micro flap.)

Okay……….., errrrrrrrr….., to the meat (lol),
    Catherine,
there seems something even deeper when you referenced The Godfather. This is more to your ability not to see this as a simple ‘us’ vs. ‘them’ game. Once a ‘victim’ the tendency is to let the ‘us’ vs. ‘them’ game dominate. The sooner it is done with the better. Some never get out of that box. You did quickly….,
Okay that is still more introduction to …, errrrrr…, ‘something’.
    Put another way:
You seemed to ‘recovered’ and got past resentments in short time. You might consider a ‘handbook’ of this.

  10. M. Simon,

Thanks for the Polywell boron fusion links. I watched the 90-minute Google video of Robert Bussard giving a presentation in front of Google employees in November 2006. For people reading this, Bussard was not some wacko freemenergy guy, he was a physicist who was an assistant director of the Atomic Energy Commission in the 1970s. The video is highly technical, but still a layperson(like me) can see another example of what’s wrong with barriers to quality scientific research in America even when we have the talent and money.

Bussard explains that the mainstream research fails to acknowledge that their torus shaped designs and its physics look nothing like our daily example of working natural fusion:THE SUN.

According to wikipedia, Bussard died in October 2007 at the age of 79. In the video, he said that his funding was cut off in year end 2005 when the Navy was told their R&D budget for alternative energy had to be cut by 26%. Bussard’s lab was under the Navy because he knew the DOE would not fund any alternative fusion research even though the mainstream fusion research had produced little over the last 30 years and $20 billion. The Navy allowed his team of less than a dozen scientists to do research for 11 years, and the research was so promising that the next stage would have been to build a much larger prototype. The Navy also proceeded not to fund a full protoype because the DOE would shut down the project since the DOE wants to maintain control of all fusion research even though they won’t fund any alternative research whatsoever.

Personally, I have heard two examples from people I have known (one a humanities professor, the other a frustrated systems analyst) of either a friend they knew or himself creating a process that would at the least “fund his retirement” which were stopped by the Navy because of “national security concerns.” The Navy either stopped the research in both cases, and in one they bought the patents for a nominal fee and told the researcher that they would get more money when the Navy implemented the process in their own projects; instead, the Navy just sat on the technology. (Don’t know what the technology was specifically since anybody that the researcher had talked to about his home research project had to sign non-disclosure aggreements for national security).

  11. Back to the movies. I can’t stand the man’s politics, but get a copy of
“The Shadow” starring Alec Baldwin. What it says about hiding in plain site
can be applied in many other cases.
Your writings about HUD have been very informative. We’ve been buried alive
in it down here in Dekalb County, Georgia. Fires, foreclosures, refinance fraud,
appraisal fraud. All in the multifamily sector.
Crack hit Atlanta in 1985, and HUD’s home funds, Low income housing tax credits,
section 8 vouchers and conversions seem to have gone a long way towards making sure
that it got spread around the area. I don’t believe that this was in any way, shape, or
form limited to just our metro area. Thanks for your work.

  12. U.N. crime chief says drug money flowed into banks

    Reuters

    Published: January 25, 2009

VIENNA: The United Nations’ crime and drug watchdog has indications that money made in illicit drug trade has been used to keep banks afloat in the global financial crisis, its head was quoted as saying on Sunday.

Vienna-based UNODC Executive Director Antonio Maria Costa said in an interview released by Austrian weekly Profil that drug money often became the only available capital when the crisis spiralled out of control last year.

“In many instances, drug money is currently the only liquid investment capital,” Costa was quoted as saying by Profil. “In the second half of 2008, liquidity was the banking system’s main problem and hence liquid capital became an important factor.”

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime had found evidence that “interbank loans were funded by money that originated from drug trade and other illegal activities,” Costa was quoted as saying. There were “signs that some banks were rescued in that way.”

Profil said Costa declined to identify countries or banks which may have received drug money and gave no indication how much cash might be involved. He only said Austria was not on top of his list, Profil said.

“We don’t need to make a movie out of the book,” “We are living it right now.”…..To quote David Kelley, the president of the Atlas Society, in reference to the plan to make “Atlas Shrugged” into a major motion picture.

  13. Catherine – there is a game changing technology on the horizon re: energy.

Easy Low Cost No Radiation Fusion

Rick Nebel Updates The Latest News

It can be done in 5 years for about $200 million. The only backing it is getting is from the US Navy and the Navy has been starving it. ITER is all about putting off the day of cheap fusion for as long as possible and keeping the physics guys minds on something that is basically uneconomical. Obama’s Energy Secretary knows about this technology. We will see if he advances it or tries to keep it bottled up.

  14. Ok James isn’t in my Geneva Breeches bible because King James edited it. He thought it was too seditious and anti Catholic. Geneva Bible has “potent” interpretations on the sidelines and those in revelations point to the Pope as the anti-christ and ambassdor of Satan. It would be politically correct to say that he isn’t but here are some pieces to put together.

    http://biblelight.net/index-mystery-babylon.html

    http://sovereignsentience.blogspot.com/2008/12/trinity-of-global-empire.html (link broken)

  15. Catherine,

The book of James isn’t in my bible. I will have to find out why. Key points in the arguement seem to be.

James 5:6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

James 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

Beyond that in James II talks about saved by faith but also by works which I disagree with.

If a man is saved by faith and condemned by works what reason is there for faith. There is not one amongst us spotless before God and we all would die an eternal death.

Those who love Jesus will follow him. Like you’ve questioned in other articles. What would Jesus do? If it was his kingdom his people would fight. He would burn them with fire. He’s not here right now, it’s still Satan’s world but what does Jesus say to do. Be patient and pray that his kingdom comes. The new earth opposite from this one. The wicked who prosper and grow rich by fraud and bloodshed will be like worms in the next and eternal life if they even get that far. You who turn many to righteousness (love of God) will shine like the stars in the heavens.

    Justice will be done.

  16. Re: “UN crime chief says drug money flowed into banks”

I don’t look at many of the Yahoo CIADrug posts but one did catch my attention. A claim that the cocaine cartels might switch their banking to Europe and that if they did the United States would tumble.

I did not think that Dustin Hoffman film with him as a Cuban immigrant who got into the drug trade was that good. But it did have those scenes which showed that what took him down was not obeying where to bank the dirty loot.

Murdered CIA head Colby claimed that cartels now, (then so now), more powerful than states.

Things are different at the top. I worry less about what ‘they’ do. The greater the top consolidation the greater the responsibility. One way or another that cannot be hid for too long. Specifics of the money can be hid. Emperor can be hid. But not his clothes.

  17. Sorry if I accidentally double-posted this, but you might be interested in this article published today:

  18. CRAC:

    You asked:

“MY QUESTION IS: Do you think that the Global Financial Crisis is a gigantic game of “chicken” being played by the global bankers instead of a liquidity crisis or even bank solvency crisis?”

At the very top, yes. There are lots of wealthy players for whom it is very real. The reality is that the top players are enjoying significant consolidation, ownership and control of real things.

The mystery is where has all the money that has been stolen gone.

    Catherine

  19. Crac:

In my experience, the Mafia leaders were much more decent people and gave the ordinary guy a better deal than the “legitimate” leaders. They liked people. They were connected to them. They did not view people as livestock as many of the legitimate leaders did.

Times have changed, however, and we have new, more ruthless mafia. So hard to generalize these days.

  20. I will try it again. Consider this a new post not a repost

FYI while I was blogging with you the other night Catherine. I was also blagging about related matters within the The Beast and the Wall Street Journal etc etc. Most of my words are blocked or erased on the Internet or in courts. I not paranoid in making a true statement. Thus I have resorted to keeping pretty good records of everything I do. The strange thing to me is that I can rely on the Wall Street Journal of all places to allow every one of my comments to stand. Whereas not one other big corporate media will dare to do the same, I think either somebody is asleep at the switch or playing an interesting game with the “Powers That Be” so to speak.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that some my words did stand the test of time in your blog and The Beast’s (Tina Brown)as well. Both of blogs are moderated so it spoke volumes of your integrity and support in the belief in free speech. However when I did post two other comments yours and you did not respond to the third for over a day and half I gave up on you. then i got you email later ans sent mine and called you. Correct? (I do believe that I saved the other comments to repost sometime but I have not time to check for them right now and it is kinda hard to rewrite things that come off the top of my head.) Furthemmore there are kinda important things happening up here in Canada next week that must be dealt with by as many ethical Canadians before they before a matter of malevolent history.

So for now I will post in your the text of an email that I sent out to the General Counsel of J.P. Morgan and many of his buddies last week. If anyone bothers to check they would see that both Eliot Spitzer and Stephen Cutler testified on Novemeber 20th, 2003 at the US Senate Banking Committee Hearing that I pointed to earlier. Anyone can see on page 15 or so of the following file that Spitzer answered me on the same day that he testified but Culter ignored me and just quit his job and got a bigger one the J.P. Morgan tis all.

    http://www.scribd.com/doc/2718120/Integrity-Yea-Right

I torture both fancy lawyers every chance I get if only to sooth my savage soul and to let them know I am still alive and kicking like Hell. I have run for public office four times thus far in Canada since then to no avail. Sooner or later though enough people will lose enough money that somebody will start asking what the hell I am talking about. EH?

Canadians who read this will find this paragraph funny but ost folks in the USA don’t even know who Belinda Stronach is let alone why I would offer the Dark Lord of a British Subway Stop a get out of jail free card to see if his Yankee lawyer Genson would know how to play it. Lets just say a Proud Maritimer is using a locked up Lord as a chump for bait in order to catch far bigger fish. Prime Minister Stevey Boy Harper not too long ago told us all to fish or cut bsit. I doubt that that evil little lapdog for Bush even knows what that means but at least I am proving to him that some of us still know how to fish even if we are largely fished out.

Never mind that talk of Hollywood for a minute did you even look at what i provided about my affairs in the real world to check my sincerity? Other people who read your blog did but i saw no one from your neck of the woods. The questions I have for you now Catherine are after your nap will you bother to try to come to an understanding of my emails that I forwarded to you earlier? If you do come to know what Obama and his lawyers such as Graig Craig knew all along will this comment stand the test of time? More importantly would you push the big red button like I have been doing for seven longs years much to the chagrin of my little Clan?

  21. Catherine,
First: You re: Short-sea asked, “What courses in Maine? Can you tell me more?”
First courses will start in the Rockland branch of the University of Maine next semester. This will be engine. University upset that they cannot have, and never will have, any control at all. Nor can the United States. Yes, Coast Guard puts some minor stamp on it at some point but more like an extra button on a jacket. Everything must come from ‘IMO’
    International Maritime Organization:
    http://www.imo.org
About all countries, as must be, in on this including Faroe Islands as separate from Denmark (2002), Vanuatu (1986), Tuvalu (2004), Sao Tome (1990), Saint Kitts (2001). Russian Federation (1958), United States (1950) and the other usual suspects.

It is in London but that matters little. Members can be anywhere, look at list of countries and dates of entry by clicking ‘member states’ on left.
First course is QMED (Qualified Member Engine Department). This position is far more serious than even Rudyard Kipling times as in MacAndrew’s Hymn:
    http://www.kipling.org.uk/poems_mcandrew.htm
This is completely necessary as in this cabotage ALL running the equipment MUST be Americans and it is difficult to do find any American qualified by IMO. And the few that are qualified are all over 63 years old.
All the smaller container ships, need about 200+ at cost of 20 to 30 million per pop, must also be American Flag. On horizon. And will most likely come from Horizon,
    http://www.horizonshipbuilding.com/shipyard.html (link broken)
    owned by,
    Carlyle Group
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlyle_Group

Few cargos are now American flag except Sealift etc. You would not trust any American academics in this anyway. God forbid. Example: Highly concentrated ‘Concentrated Bio-Degradable Insecticide’ is transported and must be kept highly refrigerated not to explode. QED problem. If any problem must be immediately vented into the water. There would be call that Atlantic Ocean dead of fish but they would come back in less than 20 years.
Problems now MacAndrew’s Hymn times a million. Other positions, di da di da, will follow. Need immediate ‘boots on deck’. Imagine: East Coast and West Coast would need each about 10 more ports. Add another 10 in Great Lakes. All will need everything from cafeteria workers to…., name any occupation. Railroads not only to be redone but new lines.

This does not matter even if trade decreases!!!! Panamax was era of cargo that just slips through canal. Now we have massive 25 knot mostly refrigerated wider ‘post panamax’ who use rail across the US. Most everything comes in/out Long Beach on West Coast and “Back in Lodi Again” Port Newark/Port Elizabeth on East Coast. Incredible waste.

Most eighteen-wheelers will not be needed. Cross country driver’s life expectancy only 52 anyway.

I think economy is at point where ‘burn’ can be controlled up or down as needed. Obviously it need be much more ‘make-um-cry’ harder before masses accepting of the massive changes needed. We went down wrong road with the giant ‘fix da roads’ government intervention in the 50s. However, Europe went to Short-sea and has already worked out most of the bugs. Here it will be a foundation for MANY other add-ons.

  22. Catherine,

I am new to this forum, but I have read many of your articles on scoop.nz including all of the Dillon Read web book and the mysteries of the missing Pentagon trillions. I understand that Calpers pension funds also invested trillions into Asia in the late 1990s and am assuming some of this money has floated back to support the US dollar (where else could it go?) after the Asian economies began collapsing in 2008. Otherwise, the dollar’s value would have gone down since 4th Quarter 2008.

MY QUESTION IS: Do you think that the Global Financial Crisis is a gigantic game of “chicken” being played by the global bankers instead of a liquidity crisis or even bank solvency crisis? This is the opinion of Matthias Chang (former member of the Malaysian cabinet)who tends to be outspoken, occasionally in poor taste, and uses profanity in his articles… but his opinions are worth reading at least once. In my opinion, the “trillions missing” may explain the extra edge so-called US interests have right now in this game of chicken though it could collapse at anytime if desired by powerful interests. Just like Nixon wanting to end gold convertability of the US dollar in 1973, not even having to pay interest on T-bills now would give the US a quasi-infinite budget from now on that nobody else could control.

[One theoretically positive aspect of this New Financial Order COULD be that the world economy would no longer have to depend on drug money and money laundering. We could go from a partial Ponzi scheme world economy into a FULL-BLOWN PONZI SCHEME at the behest of the masters of the universe]

Matthias Chang made me view the whole “quantitative easing” in a whole new light. He is saying the USA has been involved in the greatest financial confidence game of all time, and while before the US would at least pay the interest on the national debt to foreigners who own US T-bills, the US is now saying that WE WON’T EVEN PAY THE INTEREST anymore. If the exporting Asian countries don’t like it, their exporting economies will go into recession/depression along with a huge instability and unemployment problems in the near future, which explains why global trade has come to a standstill right now.
    …………………….
    Excerpts from: http://futurefastforward.com/component/content/article/777 (link broken)
(warning, some of his website has Not Safe For Work language)

” We are the biggest buyers in town. If you don’t want toilet papers from us, that is fine by us. You can get tissue papers from the Europeans, bamboo papers from the Japanese and whatever that is on offer. Who is going to argue whether tissue paper would do a better job than plain toilet paper? Hey, this is a free market. Pick your choice!”

“This is the ultimate poker game. Bush, Bernanke and Paulson is betting that no one will call their bluff, turn away and stop selling anymore goods to the US of A. Bush is counting that the fear of recession and or social unrest in the creditors’ countries will force the creditors to capitulate.”
    …………………………….

Chang sounds pretty extreme with some of his other opinions (civil war in the US, global war), but the global game of chicken sounds plausible.

  23. I read Mario Puzo’s GODFATHER novel about 15 years ago and again about a month ago. I tryed watching the first movie soon afterwards and found that the novel gives a much clearer picture of the political world. I tend to view the characters (Don Corleone,Tessio, Clemenza, Michael, Kate, Tom Hagen, Sonny, Fredo, Tattaglias, Barzini, the Turk,Johnny Fontane (“Sinatra”), Luca Brasi ) as representative of nations, national leaders, or religious leaders confronting the problems of business and power on a grand scale.

The central theme of the novel is that Godfather Corleone does not have a successor to the “family business.” Godfather does not want to go into drugs (or prostitution) and almost gets outmuscled and killed by people who need his politcal protection from prosecution since convicted drug dealers might get 10 to 15 years in prison which would prevent mass expansion of narcotics growth. Corleone makes a deal with the drug lords to buy a few years to eventually train Michael as his successor before he hits the drug lords back. Meanwhile, the Corleone Family sell off all their New York assets (at a profit) before making a permanent move into Las Vegas and Hollywood movies. Even after Don Corleone dies, the Family under Don Michael is stronger than they have ever been.

Keep in mind the novel takes place during 1945-1955, with references to a mob war about 10 years before to “clear out the bad blood.” By the way, the leading gangsters of the Five Families consider their rule – even their mob wars – far superior to that of the leadership of the legitimate world considering that their wars left hundred or thousands dead, not tens of millions like World War I & II. The outside world to them was full of savages.

  25. I also posted a second comment related to the other fella’s arguments before I hit the sack last night thinking that you had quit for the night before me and not seen the heavy duty one nor my question about it. Now it appears that it was blocked by someone other than you. In my humble opinion I did think “The Powers That Be” like the fact that we crossed paths in an open forum.

I am posting this as a test fire so to speak. Perhaps we should talk ASAP; failing that send me an email and I will send pdf files etc to support what I say is true.

P.S. I never heard of you until last night and I am listening to your talk at IRTA convention right now. Rest assured I agree and admire your Integrity

  26. This seems to fit somehow in these modern times..in some ways.

James 5:1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
James 5:2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
James 5:3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
James 5:4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
James 5:5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
James 5:6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

  27. David:

I have posted every comment. Can you repost? Thanks.

    Michael:

Yes, indeed. Boats sailing together is how it works. So may organizations have the organization and then the various money and investment syndicates aligned and affiliated.

I sometimes think that they greatest mistake in the history of the US was for our courts to affirm the charters after the Revolutionary War. So we negated much that the war accomplished and we ended up with the University endowments have the same investment syndicates around them.

I will watch Hoffa again and check out short sea.

  28. Dear Bman,
I agree with you. Knew I was raising eyebrows with my Ghandi comparison. It was a specific angle for effect.
My favorite Ghandi quote is: “First they ignore you. Then they laugh at you. Then they fight you. Then you win.”

    Catherine,
    1- courses:
Will try to get exact names of courses. Just, ( errrrr), what used to be wiper is now over $60,000 dollars a year entry level with four months off. Courses start with entry engine room and entry to Able Bodied deck. But ALL these are now international. But short-sea is going to alter economy. Teamsters will get a kick in the gut. All the academic institutions in Maine were upset but not a damned thing they could do but go along. Zero requirements except for passing the courses. Yes your grandkids will be singing “I’ve Been Working On The Railroad” to a rap beat.
2- Aiming you to Godfather III-
The karmic aspect is heavy in that film. Don’t think that was reason for pointing. You seem to know that genetically anyway. I think it more seeing the “…fishes swimming together…” in the Vatican. Fishes were the giant Catholic trusts. These trusts are not Church money but church aligned money. ‘Swimming together’ it is a giant force in the world very under the radar. This is why China will allow Catholicism as long as it does not connect to Vatican.
Breaking away from this is giant risky but can be major fruitful if it works. This is why I think mathematician John Dee one of the world’s most influential, (as in history changing), spies. Gathered forces around Elizabeth and had her separate England from the Vatican by forming own church. Dee was in Mary Queen of Scot’s camp for a period also!!!! He was the GIANT ‘swing vote’.

In that regard good films mimic life. These Catholic under-radar trusts clubs very influential. In general prior to our War Between The States England was very much for the South in upper classes, for the North in lower classes. The Irish aspect of the ‘fishes who swim together’ was the swing vote. In the fiction book and movie Gone With The Wind when Scarlett told, ‘Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn’, perhaps more than a marriage partner was swinging away. Also most likely why at that time most of US navy spread all over the world. They were waiting to see which way world turning before risking the vessels. Just practical sense.

Norwegian Lady might be world’s biggest secret trust. Know that lists of world’s richest men leads away from real picture. It is the trustees of these secret trusts that are most quietly influential. Park of Norwegian Lady statue facing sea in middle of Virginia Beach highest real estate shore is owned by Norway. Same statue in Moss, Norway owned by Virginia corp where Lady faces this way. Real estate to keep trust honest. Wood in Age of Sail like an Intel on the Inside today. Everyone needed best water barrels. Basis of connector trust. Isn’t she good, Norwegian wood. With just some minor trust problem in 1980s King and Queen of Norway flew right over to NOB, Norfolk.

Communism super collected trusts. Mao example. He was ‘odd man out’ re: Truman & Stalin. When things coming together again was clued in by Anthony Eden. “What about the money?” Eden kept asking. “We’ll obey international business rules,” answered Mao not getting it. (How commie can you get?) Eden eventually broke through referencing how much China owned of Wall Street etc. Oh….., that money. Areas near Chung King have been off limits for a long time. Do not know about now. NYTimes got into real trouble on late 80s for just having a reporter near. China trust hippies live there very low key, like rich peasants. Another school of swim-togethers.

Both book and movie Falcon And The Snowman show much, just how much, they work together at the top. Never think you can play one side against another. As Soviet Life made an oblique reference to some of my writing I made an appointment. 1987. Office was technically on embassy grounds in Georgetown. When went to appointment it was put off to the next day but I was put through a ‘test’. Next day same thing happened, another test, this time more current events. Both times I could see that I was watched. Third time when appointment happened with Mr. Shipko those watching me were gone but instead a stationwagon outside with Foggy Bottom types. But never even thought of defecting. I did know enough to say right away ‘nothing confidential, you can share any of this.’. So many insiders say that movie reveals much.

Hoffa is Jack Nickolson’s best role. Great movie.

    Great thread.

  29. The Captains and the Kings is a GREAT suggestion. I did not realize that they had made a TV series out of it. I will see if it is available.

Yes, Citizen Kane and Network are both excellent. It is amazing how much Hollywood describes. You just have to pick out the pieces and put them together with a bit of imagination.

    THANKS!

  30. BTW do you recall the book and the old TV series entitled The Captains and The Kings?

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073971/

I picked up and saved the hard cover copy of Taylor Caldwell’s book last year from my long gone brother’s collection. When I read the back pages I shook my head and laughed as I thought of all the argument my banker brother and his rebel brother (Mean old me) had had over the years. I must say that noble lady tried like hell to inform us all of the score in 1962 in the prologue or whatever to her fine book of some not quite so fictional characters before the first of teo Irish Catholic sons of the USA were assinated.

Comtemorary classics to the Godfather such as it and the Network etc and most importantly the old show Citizen Kane from the time when the men who raised me were young taught me to never trust the system

  31. Michael,

One thing I feel you may misunderstand about Ghandi is that he lives on in Eternity as an archetype. He was uncompromising in his methods and his methods will live on in the hearts and minds of men, forever. How is this failure? Isn’t that the greatest human achievement possible, outside of becoming enlightened, or perhaps becoming a Boddhisattva or a tulkuh? You seem to give too much significance to material flesh, as the end-all, be-all of all Realities.

Prove to me that you exist. Prove to me you are made of particles of matter. Prove to me you are anything but an idea in a dream. Why give so much significance to a fleeting dream? Government is what happens to souls who have the ability to become One with God, to transcend, but have become ignorant of who they really are. Ignorance is why your spirit has taken on the form of material flesh, and for no other reason. You still have something to learn, if you are here.

The hard life decision is to know these things, and to remain uncompromising… to allow death to the flesh to arrive, to witness and suffer it fully, and to merge with God with eyes wide open. That was the path Ghandi took. Confuscius was not such a man.

  32. David:

You are absolutely correct. The Godfather films do not provide a clear, comprehensive picture. Rather they provide a marvelous insight into several pieces of the jigsaw puzzle.

Thanks for your post and these links. I will take a look.

How do busy people gain an emotional understanding of what is going on around us? Watching a series of movies, each that provides one or two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle is a practical way. Reviewing all the material through books, articles and documentations is much more time consuming and often draining for many people.

Part of the challenge is the role of intellectual knowledge vs emotional knowledge. To be effective at dealing effectively in this environment, we need to incorporate an understanding of our environment at an emotional level. This is where movies do such a good job — helping us feel something at a more intimate, personal level.

This is why I have chosen to do a movie segment in the Solari Report — I believe it can help busy people integrate much more critical understanding faster. Then as they want to go deeper, I can point to articles, books, etc. I also cover the puzzle pieces that are left out and where to go to find them.

When I was in litigation with the federal government in the 1990’s, a reporter wrote a
story about my situation. It was picked up by search engine as a Top Pick and the web hits skyrocketed. Suddenly, I started to get calls from former associates who held influential positions. The head of real estate for one of the largest corporations in the
world. The head of a very influential PR firm. A partner in a leading Washington law firm. Their private message for me? It was “Watch Godfather III.”

It was the first time I watched Godfather III or thought about the relevance of these movies to the day to day legal, administrative, smears and physical harassment I was experiencing related to HUD’s role in engineering the housing bubble.

I was stunned when I realized how much Godfather III had to teach about HUD corruption and the narcotics trafficking that is so intertwined with housing finance and mortgage fraud. For more, see my articles Narco Dollars for Beginners and the Myth of the Rule of Law.

    All my best,

    Catherine

  34. Leaders must make hard decisions. They must kill. To avoid killing avoids responsibility.

The story of two men: One becomes a spiritual leader but refuses to make the hard life death decisions. He is whacked. The second man had to make the same choice. He goes into government and starts one the world’s great religions.

We think of Mahatma Gandhi as a spiritual leader. He kept rising to the point where there was more and more pressure for him to go into the government. As any government minister he would need to make life or death decisions. He refused. If one were to put this in the Seth terms of “we create our own realities” then he had himself put down.

The other man who did join real government is founder of a great religion. This other man was not Mohammad? He was ‘government’ from the get go. It was Confucius. He became a godfather.

War on the planet is reducing. But to do so we must with greater and greater care use the military. We cannot avoid this. That just goes backward to more violence.

Hard decisions must be made. This applies to economics. American cabotage is stupid and wasteful. Short-sea is used as an example. So many would be against short-sea that it would never fly. Yet it would end up helping all. Europe has had short-sea for decades. Do you see 18-wheelers blocking up all the highways in Europe? Hell no.

We know that we cannot continue with growth economies. We got the bankers out the way with minimum violence. We simply paid them off. Short-sea means not only rebuilding railroads but building more. The tariff on anything coming into the US is 12 %. We cannot double that to 24. Laws would need to be changed. Many of the laws are international here anyway. Will many scream ‘fascism’? Of course. What we can’t counter with some PR we simply ignore. Courses are already appearing at colleges in Maine. The educator crowd are aghast as they have no control. Only internationally certified teachers can be used. They screamed, then cried, now go along.

When spirituality is an avoidance it is not spiritual.
    Michael

  35. The bigger issue is also a spiritual one. Human beings have forgotten who they are. They are disconnected from their power. They are disconnected from Mother Earth. People routinely believe in false prophets who guide them down the paths of paradigms that have nothing to do with true personal power, or historical meaning. The controllers of the paradigms have created distractions designed to destroy the true power of other human beings.

And perhaps this is a good thing. True power requires much wisdom, and one look at the work of the power families of the world quickly shows how little wisdom has been adopted. Imagine a world in which every person owns the inner secrets of life, of the siddha, of the spiritual adept, and many of those people not having the wisdom of a rodent, will use those powers to further the aims of their own limited ego. Mankind would have ended long ago, in such a scenario.

With mass enlightenment comes a stage of mass fragility, which is where we are now. The archetype of Death approaches but has not decided what form it will take. Will it be the death of Truth, or the death of masses of individuals? On such a small planet, only a few can have access to Truth, or the human species will devour itself in its quest to climb out of its own shell.

  36. Just saw “The Wrestler” (in Sydney)… if you want a movie to act as a metaphor for the decline of the US then look no further!

    — Emphasis on external validation at the expense of intimacy, connectedness and environmental health
    — Exhausted and disillusioned in the present after a glorious 1980s; you’re just not that special anymore
    — Final lunge into potential destruction to keep the illusion going

    Great movie though extremely sad.

  37. The Fortunate Pilgrim is the best novel I ever read. It was based on real knowledge. It did not sell. Then a studio asked Puzo to take the Godfather section and write a screenplay.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fortunate_Pilgrim

The Pentagon is the largest buyer of motion pictures on the planet. (PXs, on warships…, everywhere.) If the Pentagon says ‘no’ to a film it is dead. It was Harold Tabor’s job for twenty years to screen all films for the Pentagon and give a thumb up or down. There was only one film nixed, (won’t give name). That is VERY liberal. The only film that caused great inside discussion was the Godfather series. Many inside felt it told too much. I felt the scene of control of the US Senator was the one thing they felt most uneasy about but that never confirmed.

One of the best jobs I ever had, (legit business), was Mafia. They really do know how to run things. Also had to deal with alphabet types, FBI, naval intel. Etc. And the mob. For some time felt that the mob was the best to deal with.

Stands to reason. In that area ‘rep’ is everything. ‘Rep’ scene is far more democratic than voting. This is why the headquarters of mob activity is often is a quasi-public place. Say fairly openly, “…Dis Joey the Horse is getting to me. Dis muckup. If he was whacked who would miss him?” The statement gets around. If there is any defense of Joey, or there was false information spread around, this would be the opportunity to speak up in either public or private. Is the ‘real world’ like this? I donno. Muck all dis philosophy stuff……!

    Lets talk business:

Vinny…. Lets go over this Karachi Mariachi stuff. What we got? Okay everyone was reading new prez stuff so today Times let out we gotta deal with Russia. Maybe just one person read it, he he. Russia will let us use them as alternate supply route to Afghanistan. Underneath all of this… what? Whose pipeline will it be? Okay so the Ruskies got pushed out. Dis Nato mateo ain’t doing too good either. It is getting out that the Taliban were giving the protection for the lorries, yeah hehe dey call dem ‘lorries’, north to that Khyber Pass place. Got out dat they even get bout 1/3 the value of the goods going north. That’s a vig. Dis is simple. Just give them more. Let them give the protection to the pipeline. Only prob is dat dey done wanna plant the poppy. Want to do wheat??? Simple. A vig is still a vig. Just increase the Karachi protection. Give up more money, more money, more money. Say there can be even more but something missing. Den jus wait. Right, Vinny?

    Thanks Catherine,
    Michael

  38. Nice construct for stimulating the imagination on the relational and institutional interconnectedness in our culture. Social mythology only partly explains how things really work. Are all the process and outcomes really so transparent or is there more going on? There is if you look. When we benefit from things we stop questioning. The big question is what is the best systems for distributing maximum benefits. What represents real value these days? Everybody got a big horse head delivered recently… Will we separate promises from actual function? Will we again elect people to power who don’t fundamentally believe that government can work? Will there ever be accountability to the public interest? Is that being naive? Best possible ’09 to you all.
