As a journalist, I’ve been writing about accidents for more than thirty years. In the last 15 or so years, I’ve concentrated on accidents in outdoor recreation, in an effort to understand who lives, who dies, and why. To my surprise, I found an eerie uniformity in the way people survive seemingly impossible circumstances. Decades and sometimes centuries apart, separated by culture, geography, race, language, and tradition, the most successful survivors–those who practice what I call “deep survival”–go through the same patterns of thought and behavior, the same transformation and spiritual discovery, in the course of keeping themselves alive. Not only that but it doesn’t seem to matter whether they are surviving being lost in the wilderness or battling cancer, whether they’re struggling through divorce or facing a business catastrophe–the strategies remain the same.

Survival should be thought of as a journey, a vision quest of the sort that Native Americans have had as a rite of passage for thousands of years. Once you’re past the precipitating event–you’re cast away at sea or told you have cancer–you have been enrolled in one of the oldest schools in history. Here are a few things I’ve learned that can help you pass the final exam.

  1. Jan:

Gonzales excellent book and article address wilderness survival experiences and what they teach us for a wide range of difficult life experiences — many of which occur without being caused by political forces.

Hence, I have not approved your post. Please try to keep things focused and useful,

  2. Many western attempts to understand a different culture are many times lacking at best and full of manipulated distortions at worst. I think 2012 is another example of that.

  3. @Richard,

FYI….Mayan Calendar theory started when a Harvard professor discovered the rock that had a calendar on it and figured out how the Mayan’s measured time. It then became a PR gig for Harvar to make their archeology department increase flagging enrollment….making the professor’s finding appear exciting.

Bernays then mentioned it in his 1923 book, Propaganda… I’ve pasted below a reference from the online book (see CHAPTER VIII – PROPAGANDA FOR EDUCATION).

It was also promoted by Terrence McKenna in the 90’s.

Overall, it’s more a PR exercise than anything else. I wouldn’t put any stock into it.

    Bernays reference….

“Not long ago,” says Charles A. Merrill in Personality, “a certain Harvard professor vaulted into the newspaper headlines. There were several days when one could hardly pick up a paper in any of the larger cities without finding his name bracketed with his achievement.
“The professor, who was back from a trip to Yucatan in the interests of science, had solved the mystery of the Venus calendar of the ancient Mayas. He had discovered the key to the puzzle of how the Mayas kept tab on the flight of time. Checking the Mayan record of celestial events against the known astronomical facts, he had found a perfect correlation between the time count of these Central American Indians and the true positions of the planet Venus in the sixth century B.C. A civilization which flour129 Propaganda ished in the Western Hemisphere twenty-five centuries ago was demonstrated to have attained heights hitherto unappreciated by the modern world.
“How the professor’s discovery happened to be chronicled in the popular press is, also, in retrospect, a matter of interest. … If left to his own devices, he might never have appeared in print, except perhaps in some technical publication, and his remarks there would have been no more intelligible to the average man or woman than if they had been inscribed in Mayan hieroglyphics.
“Popularization of this message from antiquity was due to the initiative of a young man named James W. D. Seymour. . . .
“It may surprise and shock some people,” Mr. Merrill adds, “to be told that the oldest and most dignified seats of learning in America now hire press agents, just as railroad companies, fraternal organizations, moving picture producers and political parties retain them. It is nevertheless a fact. . . .

  4. This is spiritual advice that is oft repeated. Similar things in “The Secret” by Byrne. Times may be tough, but with the right attitude, we can enjoy the journey. The strong spirit will survive, influence others and build a better world.

When in a survival situation as we are in the current financial, political, and moral meltdown, the support of one another is critical. Some of our leaders are still in fraud mode and denial as if that will change the truth of where we are. Denial, cover-up and delay only benefit those who need to be prosecuted. It does not benefit the rest of us. This video with William Black is encouraging because he is telling the truth. Without acceptance we will have a longer and deeper depression. It is an hour and a half, but well worth the listen. http://www.goldmansachs666.com/2009/08/goldman-sachs-massive-scandal.html

  5. A journey into the self. I will remember these points if have to leave this place due to calamity.

  6. Too many Malthusians in the cabal to curb my urge to purge. These fools have managed to spray us with heavy metals, some with a half-life, in the name of weather control. As if it were so. Discovery of their desire to reduce the population of the planet to around 500 million, survival may not be an option. Being injected with corporate cocktails that are ‘for our protection’ could very well be the second part of their binary biological weapon.

Henry Kissinger once made the remark, “we need to rid the planet of useless eaters.” It’s not the first or, the last time that those sentiments have been aired by the elite. If, after being made aware of the chemtrails and their components, why haven’t good people stepped up and called our state governments to account for allowing our people to be poisoned? I would love to hear their reply.

All of turmoil that has happened in the past 20 years, engineered to enable the New World Order may be a large red herring. We’re due to pass through the center of the Milky Way in 2012. Have you checked your Mayan calender lately?

  7. I do not believe survival should be interpreted as running from this psychopathic cabal.

On the contrary, I believe humanity’s survival is dependent on our willingness to throw off the psychopaths socially engineered ponerization of society and to regain our humanity and control over the earth’s resources.

Moving food production to household backyard and acquiescing to total dominance of energy resources is capitulation, with devastating consequences.

Time for the “Adults” in the room to act.
