“Those who say it can’t be done are usually interrupted by others doing it.”

As the experiment of big spending, big government, and big corporations appears to be waning, one has to ask what will take its place if the system as we know it fails. For many years running, those who have foreseen what is now happening have been educating citizens to “go local” in all that they do. Our guest on this episode of the Solution Series, Patrick Wood, has been aware of what is coming for a long time, educating and informing America for going on four decades.
We are delighted to talk to Patrick about organizing locally. His long experience and infectious charisma make him an ideal candidate to discuss the importance of forming, training, and maintaining local groups that a community can count on if the going gets tough. Patrick is clear, concise, and very knowledgeable—so grab your favorite beverage and enjoy this wonderful episode.

The key to getting started – from scratch – is just get started yourself and ask people to join you over time. If you can get a distribution list and a website going, making b-cards with a dedicated voicemail number that people can call and leave messages for you to respond too, if you’re up for it – a Bill Board (they accomplish a great deal), and give out business cards for yourself and tell folks to e-mail you for more info.
Once you get known, a good team will form faster. A bank account for the group is a harder ask but it will come – and finances have to be transparent – especially if you go for 501(c) something status as a non-profit for tax deductible donations. The financial scandal model was tried out on CSPOA.org recently. The description I listened too was a bit of a fizzle. No real legs because everyone who runs a business knows that money has to be moved between accounts occasionally. You just document it, if a check is involved you get two signatures on it and keep a hard copy ledger. They had a surveillance issue and a protocol issue… but now they know they are over the target.
I totally agree that whoever decides to be the PR person – the face to the outside world – has to be ready to be at least somewhat a central command.
As someone who has been an activist since I was 18, I hope this is helpful to many who come from neocon oriented families that have traditionally seen activism as something uncouth and reprehensible.
Amazing. Thank you guys.
