  1. Very nice! Please advise if there would be a way to ad you to my site…this would be a great addition to patriot barter, which is a free barter/real currency classifieds site.

  2. I’m really looking forward to the iPhone/iPod Touch version!

Also, it would be handy to have it calculate the numbers for 40% silver coins in another column, too.

    Thanks!

  3. …oh,well ,i just weighed it and it’s more like twenty five pounds on my bathroom digital, okay, iwas just too lazy to do the math, but thanks anyway for the calculater, now what?

  4. ???? Wha-it doesn’t seem to work for me …i’m just a bonehead,or what??? I have 10 pounds of silver dollars-the calculater can’t seem to compute that! What did i do wrong???

  5. Great tool! Just say NO to Federal Reserve Notes. Alternative currencies are permitted if you and your associates agree to trade in same. Let’s give the worthless and deceptively named “dollars” some real competition – a run for their money.

The intend to dump the currency anyway in the next few years; see
    http://www.thenewamerican.com/economy/commentary-mainmenu-43/957-g20-pledges-supersized-imf

Using this calculator and thereby building local community businesses and others in your cross-country network of suppliers and customers, you avoid the coming hyper-inflation of the “dollar” as well.

  6. Very nice and a handy tool. I can offer a couple suggestions for enhanced functionality.

Since not all users may have a full compliment of full ounce, half ounce, quarter ounce, tenth ounce coins or ingots, and some may have gram bars of various units, 100, 20, 10, 5, etc. in addition to other coins, if you were to include check boxes to say “use this denomination” or “exclude this denomination” it would be a huge improvement.

For example, say I wanted to exchange some gold and silver for a used (cheap) tractor. The tractor owner and I cannot negotiate a price in units of gold and silver. While he is willing to accept payment in specie, he is only willing to negotiate only in paper currency terms (Federal Reserve Notes, FRN’s or Canadian dollars, whatever).

We negotiate an exchange price of $2500. I only happen to have 1 one ounce coin and a variety of 20 and 5 gram bars, plus 90% silver coins and some .9999 silver one ounce rounds or junk silver dollars. Which ones would I use?

While I could figure it out, providing the user the flexibility to select the units of specie available to them, or having the option to select “grams” (ooooo, easy fix? at 31.1034 grams per troy oz…) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troy_weight

    I hope this isn’t asking too much…

    Best regards, Dave

  7. Great job Catherine and Franklin! Love this. An iPhone/Mobile phone version would be great.

Curious where you are getting your live spot gold/silver quotes from ? Kitco?

    cheers,
    hans

  8. I found your conversion site to be a great tool, easy to use, for either gold or silver. i can see the day coming when many people will be using this as part of their lives. It seems as if Governor Palin might be right, if they didn’t vote for the “bail out” we are looking at another “great depression”

  9. Love your silver calculator!
I would just add one thing, a version to reverse the amounts say you have $100 federal reserve notes how much face value silver coin could I get for that amount. I can figure it out using this calculator but have to keep imputing till I get the right dollar amount. There are a few of us small time traders that use your calculator for this exact situation.
    Thanks,
