Like all of Italy, except a bit more so, Florence is all about stone. Green and white marble bricks cover the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (popularly called the Duomo) to breathtaking effect.

If you’re ever in southeastern Massachusetts please try and visit the museum inside the ‘Dighton Rock State Park’. https://www.mass.gov/locations/dighton-rock-state-park You may visit the museum only by appointment.  Please call (508) 644-5522 to schedule a date and time. The museum contains a large ‘Commesso mosaic‘ that was made by a Native American in the early 1970’s. It is quite stunning as the characters looking out of the piece appear so alive. I think you ‘ll be captivated.
