“It’s time to wake the women from the beauty sleep, the heart of Mother Earth is weeping.” ~ Yael Deckelbaum

Our Music of the Week is an extraordinary song, born in 2016 from the synergy of the Israeli grassroots peace movement “Women Wage Peace” and Israeli/Canadian singer-songwriter Yael Deckelbaum. Not many heard about it when the events that inspired the song happened, but with events in Israel currently accelerating, the time of this song seems to be now—and every day.

At the time, some 30,000 women, children, and men from Jewish, Muslim, Druze, and Christian backgrounds walked in the “March of Hope”—a two-week march that moved through northern Israel along the Jordan Valley and the West Bank toward Jerusalem, culminating in 15,000 women singing and protesting in front of Benjamin Netanyahu’s house.

The music video, with footage of the 2016 peace walk and supporting rallies from numerous other countries, also contains a message by Leymah Gbowee, Nobel laureate and peace activist from Liberia, who in 2003 led a non-violent women’s peace movement in her own country.

How uplifting to see these women’s faces and hear their voices! Yael Deckelbaum is their inspired leader.
