Samuel Barber’s Adagio, originally written as part of his String Quartet and later arranged for string orchestra, is one of classical music’s most outstanding lyrical pieces. It is widely known to modern audiences due to being featured in numerous movie and TV soundtracks.
What a delight to hear a piece that we have all heard before, here played to utmost perfection by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under Gustavo Dudamel at the annual open-air summer concert in the gardens of the Schönbrunn Palace.
