Our Movie of the Week is, once again, Israeli filmmaker Yoav Shamir’s award-winning 2009 documentary, Defamation.

Shamir claims that he had never personally experienced anti-Semitism, so he decided to explore this issue globally. Through his filmmaking journey, he shines a bright light on the topic of anti-Semitism in the modern world, highlighting its impact on Israeli and U.S. politics. He also examines the debate surrounding the exaggeration—or weaponization—of claims of anti-Semitism to stifle critiques of Israel. In addition, the piece offers unique insights into the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

Defamation handles, with extraordinary humor and grace, a topic many of us are uncomfortable discussing. It is essential watching to help distinguish between Judaism and those who would try to misuse a great religion and tradition as air cover in the global game of power politics.

The movie can be watched for free.
