We are hurting, struggling every day to find purpose. I do not know what lies beyond these mountains; these may be our last days, our last hours. If we die, if I die, I will have died for a purpose which I never truly realize. A hope that one day men will not be ruled by kings nor governed by tyrants, that the heirs of this land will be self governing, independent, not taxed into poverty, but liberated by the opportunity to work and to prosper by the sweat of their brow. God sent his son into the world to die, that I might have life, and in the darkest hours of death, he proved that there is no enemy strong enough when God’s will deems otherwise. If death be the price of freedom, then by God’s hand I will give tenfold to afford my children and my children’s children such practice.” ~ The Over-Mountain Men: The Price of Freedom

This week, we are delighted to draw your attention to the exceptional work of Shiloh Films and its series portraying the extraordinary lives and endeavors of the courageous 18th-century Americans known as the “OverMountain Men.” Through captivating storytelling and immersive cinematography, Shiloh Films successfully sheds light on the indomitable spirit and determination of these historical figures. John Sevier, one of the Overmountain Men, is our Hero of the Week.

The summary for the first part of the series, The Over-Mountain Men: Rise of the Regulators, explains: “It is 1755, Reverend Shubal Stearns led a wave of Baptist revival that caused royal unrest and increased persecution upon the growing churches. The Rise of the Regulators is a moving action drama depicting not only the patriot spirit which formed the independence of our nation but also the strong influence of Baptist churches upon our liberty.”

Here, we highlight the second part, The Over-Mountain Men: The Price of Freedom, which continues to focus on the resilient Regulators: “It is 1771, and the oppressed Regulators take the risk, and stand against Governor Tryon. The repercussions are more than anyone anticipated.” After the Regulators retreat into hiding, they find the inner strength to overcome immense challenges. The story revolves around a daring expedition over perilous mountains as they strive to regain “their lands, their homes, and their freedom.”

The release of the third installment in the series, still pending, focuses on the Battle of Kings Mountain, where the Overmountain Men encircled South Carolina’s Kings Mountain and executed a surprise assault. Facing a challenging battle, they emerged victorious and successfully overcame the British forces, making a decisive contribution to the American victory in the Revolutionary War.
