Related to our current focus on the electromagnetic body (here and here), our Movie of the Week invites a look at another important aspect of the electromagnetic nature of life.
Grounding or earthing is the physical exchange of electrical frequencies between the human body and the earth. The human body is a natural conductor, but with our modern-day lifestyle—connected to electrical appliances, smartphones, and computers—most don’t know or forget that we can discharge some of the frequencies and recharge ourselves with the beneficial free electrons from the earth.
This documentary shows the profound effects earthing can have on human health, cognition, and general biological function. And it shows how detrimental it can be when we miss out on the natural electrons Earth provides.
One of the culprits are the insulating soles of our shoes, mostly made of rubber and synthetic materials. Our immune systems function optimally when the body has an adequate supply of electrons, which are easily and naturally obtained by barefoot contact with the earth.
Walking barefoot on the ground can literally become the first step to lasting health.
“[T]his most common-sense thing that we are organisms that live and grow and depend entirely on the earth while we are alive, and yet, we have completely isolated our self from it…. We’re so disconnected that it becomes this weird thing if we actually slip our shoes off.” ~ Laura Koniver

This and sunlight. Awhile back there’d been a guest on Solari who’d studied the health benefits and nutrients we get from sunlight. I’ve searched and cannot find my way back to that Solari interview, but since that time, I expose my problem lower back to the sun through a sunny window a few times a month and this helps tremendously (no more meds and doctor’s visits with agonizing back spams). I do the same for my gut, exposing the abdomen to sunlight a few times per month- no more chronic gut pain. Regarding the bare feet on the earth- I was one of those kids who refused to wear shoes outside (shoes always hurt back in the 60’s and 70’s and tore up my feet). My brother and my playground, as kids, was the local Darby Creek; me always barefoot, my brother always in shoes. My brother frequently ended up laid up with poison ivy or oak though the summer, and though we played in the same spots, I never got any poison ivy or oak symptoms. So I read this article last night, and this morning, waking with my usual lower back ache (old nurse’s back), took a walk barefoot in the back yard. I have to say it helps- feels like it breaks up the lower back morning knot, to walk in the cold grass. I took my indoor cat with me, on a leash. The immediate effect on the cat is that the life and sharpness comes back into her eyes.
Sounds like Jason Bawden Smith – should be in the library.
Cannot find it. But it’s OK because I remember most of what he said. Those parts of our bodies that never get exposed to the sun tend to be the areas where we have the most problems, was the jist of it. Personally, I thought that was an astute observation all by itself, but also he’d done more research, such as the nutrients from the sun that penetrate skin to deeper tissues. I can feel that in my gut after a few minutes of sun direct to abdomen. Also got inspired to go back to the creek where my brother and I used to play, and walk around again in my bare feet this morning. Pure joy. Remembered fishing and fly fishing and how beautiful that is. There’s a movie- A River Runs Through It that I’d forgotten all about until today. Beautiful fly fishing scenes and a good movie.
I can’t believe this is the first I have seen of this documentary! Thank you for posting this. My local WAPF family farmer’s wife is always barefoot….. and when I say always I mean 100% of the time. Even to Latin Mass (high mass) each Sunday….she’s recruiting others to join in on the benefits of barefoot and grounding. Pretty impressive. Now I get her dedication. Has anyone purchased grounding mats from Clint Ober’s company? I believe his products are called “Ground Therapy”
Earthing and Ground Therapy products are sold on this website, Amazon, and other places. We purchased the universal mat kit from a month ago. It’s too early to comment on any potential benefits.
