For Let’s Go to the Movies this week, watch Undoctored, the eye-opening story of how the American Medical Association (AMA) actively plotted against chiropractic, labeling the practice “quackery” and attempting to destroy a whole profession. Thankfully, many wonderful doctors and chiropractors withstood the deliberate smear campaign and salvaged this powerful healing tradition for all of us to use.

The movie is both an important documentary to record the fraudulent and conspiratorial attacks of the AMA as well as an encouraging reminder of the many excellent people in health care who just believe in helping people and will not be intimidated out of doing the right thing.

  1. There is a lot of variation in the treatment methods of chiropractors same as MDs. Some do an excellent job and some cause problems. The best are those with micromovements who are able to treat you as infrequently as possible. The problems tend to occur when people go too frequently and their ligaments and tendons become weak from too much stretching. Also the patients need to build up their muscles around the bones to hold the bones and joints in place.

That being said, if I had a sprain, had jacked my neck, back, or had broken a bone, I would much rather go to a chiro than a MD unless I was bleeding out and it required surgery. Surgeons do what surgeons do, and we need surgeons. We don’t need drug pushers. I have NEVER met a chiro who was a drug pusher. So on that alone, they create less iatrogenic damage.

  2. The first time I heard the word ‘quack’ was when I was a little boy and my uncle told about how he had been in pain but after he went to a quack chiropractor who gave him a twist the pain was gone. After I was explained what ‘quack’ meant I couldn’t understand why someone who had stopped the pain would be referred to so disparagingly.

Should one go a chiropractor prohylactically even if one does not have any pains but in order to balance the body before any problems arise?

According to the video chiropractors seem to make frequent use of x-rays. I suppose given the nature of their work it is unavoidable but it does give me some cause for concern. Dentists now frequently also use x-rays but I try to avoid them.

Talking about chiropractics, I have followed the work of the chiropractor Dr Jon Bergman and I have learned a great deal from him.

Jennifer Walters might like to consider inviting Dr Bergman as a guest on her new health series.

  3. Thank you for this. I know Dr. Gary Null worked hard to stop the destruction of chiropractors and he is not even a chiropractor but he is a board-certified dietician and nutritionist and also the only human I know on the planet to cure AIDS.
