It should not be a surprise that The Resistance Banker made it as our Movie of the Year 2021. The movie illustrates how critical it now is for us to use our time and resources as judiciously as possible to build the world in which we want to live. It’s like taking care of ourselves; if we don’t do it, nobody else will do it for us.

The Resistance Banker is a 2018 award-winning Dutch movie, set in the Netherlands during World War II. It is based on the true story of banker Walraven van Hall, who created and managed to fund the Dutch resistance during the war. It was the most-watched Dutch film of 2018. The Dutch are known for their financial genius and accomplishments—and this story is an inspiring example.

If we want to change the world, it’s not enough to organize; we need to finance change, too!

  1. Thanks for this recommendation, Catherine. I just watched the movie on Netflix, and with all that has been going on in our world, I saw it not only as a wonderful story of what these people banded together to accomplish during World War II, but I also saw it as a metaphor for the kinds of things that many of us may now need to do in banding together, as tyranny continues to be invoked over all of us at deeper and deeper levels.

  2. Sounds like an interesting film, the wartime resistance has a lot to teach us! Here in Italy, after decades of obsessive celebration of the resistance, the topic has miraculously disappeared from the regime-controlled media.

  3. I am sorry, I cannot find it on Amazon or Netflix ?
There was a Blue Ray on Amazon but would not work in North Amercia.

  4. I thought the Resistance Banker was excellent and an example of extreme courage and integrity!
