Catherine and Ricardo are back in the Netherlands after a very successful and eventful trip to Catherine’s U.S. homelands. Among the many places they visited, Catherine and team spent time in Philadelphia, where Ricardo got a delightful education into the corned beef deli sandwiches that were historically a critical part of the Philadelphia dining experience—a tradition and culinary art originally inherited from Germany.
Director Erik Greenberg Anjou tells the story of the beginnings of the fascinating world of Jewish restaurants and food stores that have become a culinary institution all over the United States. Many anecdotes and legends have sprung up around those time-honored places that today are being replaced more and more by gentrification and fast-food competitors.
