  1. My dear mother died two days before the divine Jessye Norman. From childhood onwards Mum taught me to listen deeply, to be still, and so to love classical music. We both adored Ms Norman’s version of “Mild und leise wie er lächelt” (aka Isolde’s Liebestod), one of those sublime pieces of music that bring you to tears of joy:
