This is the Response I received from American Red Cross:
Dear Deborah Bhai,
Thank you for contacting the American Red Cross. We appreciate your time and willingness to keep our blood supply at a safe level by wanting to donate at one of our collection sites. In regard to your question, the Red Cross, like all blood collectors in the U.S., is required to follow the eligibility guidelines by the FDA, including guidance regarding blood donor eligibility related to those who receive a COVID-19 vaccine. According to this guidance it is critical that potential donors know the name of the manufacturer of the vaccine they received. In most cases, there is no deferral time for individuals who received a COVID19 vaccine as long as they are symptom free and feeling well at the time of donation. The following eligibility guidelines apply to each COVID-19 vaccine received, including the second dose administration:
• There is no deferral time for eligible blood donors who are vaccinated with a COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by AstraZeneca, Janssen/J&J, Moderna, Novavax or Pfizer.
• Eligible blood donors who received a live attenuated COVID-19 vaccine or do not know what type of COVID-19 vaccine they received must wait two weeks before giving blood.
Thank you so much for your generous spirit to help save lives. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us by replying to this email or by calling 1-866-236-3276.
Have a great day and once again thank you for taking the time to contact us.
Sincerely,
