    I agree with you the baby boomer era has left us in a terrible shape. The GI Generation built up this nation’s wealth in the 1950s, 1960s by producing and building new industries. The Baby Boomers and Gen-Xers moved away from producing and building into high finance or service related industries. This allowed other countries particulary China, Korea that had workers to reap our industries.
    The last two generations also developed a consumer mentality of wanting it quick and now. Now we are in another economic depression this time without an industrial base and with a population who has really never known poverty or how to survive it.

Too many Americans sat by and let the GOP, Reagan & the WOWB 1%-ERS (Wealthy Old Whiteboy 1%-ERS) dismantle the nation’s Industrial & Manufacturing Base and ship it to China – JUST LIKE THE ‘SCRAP METAL’ FROM WTC #1 & #2! Then, the same GANG Looted & Destroyed the S & L’s. Next on the agenda was Billy C’s NAFTA SCAM. As if those 3 GRAND THEFTS weren’t enough, Bush Jr. came along with his spectrum of skills to PILLAGE 3 nations (America, Afganistan & Iraq), Destroye 3 Economies, Kill 1.9 MILLION Muslims (Iraq & Afganistan) and help the WOWBs ROB the U.S. Treasury of $12 TRILLION
    and SHRED the Housing Sector. And his parting shot? THE WORST WORLD DEPRESSION IN MAN’S HISTORY!

    The above sordid tale does have a Silver lining. Most of the INCREDIBLY STUPID CITIZENS who sat by while America’s noble presidents watch the ‘Ship of State’ founder & SINK, will soon pass away leaving behind their children to clean up their mess. Yep, America’s become a HUGE Nursing Home of Baby Boombers too crippled & demented to undo the EVIL they’ve wrought with their flawed Morality.

    Have you ever heard of documentary called “Affluenza” I saw it a couple years on PBS and it explained the consumer lifestyle of modern life. Bascially our lives have become work more to spend more at the mall.

Dear Catherine: To begin I now realize how cynical I have become…As I have only a percursory knowledge of Mr. Walker’s documentary, I might agree that he and I.O.U.S.A. is but a whisper in the wind ( and that might explain why CNN is viewing it ). It is unfortuneate for me, that, lately while listening to so many radio talk show hosts and their guests ( who also sound the alarm that “the sky is falling” ); and given the evidence, rightly so, I find that some of those listeners now find exposing the madness is not nearly enough; and some call for more decisive action ( ie.: taking arms??!! or as former Under Secr. of Treasury Craig P. Roberts has wondered why Americans don’t just “string them up” ). Short of an 18th Century style French Revolution I am also in the ranks ( and I have a degree in American and English Literature/Communications ) that blogging, speech and visuals are very limiting and unfortuneately not going to turn the beast around on it’s own ( the old addage: ” the pen is mightier than the sword ” may have sounded brave in the past but we are now immune to those expressions of valour )…It is disappointing that even though the corruption is being exposed, so many who might or would, are now incapable of reacting decisively. As a past reference, I recall a TV visual of former Secr. of the Treasury LLoyd Bentson, who was speaking on the fly as he was headed to the Summit of the Americas meeting in Miami during his tenure ( 1992?? ) that one of the topics with the South and Central American financial leaders that was to be discussed had to do with the “missing” money leaving the US…as he explained it then: $100b was accountable as part of the “drug trade”–money out/drugs in; YET, he also was aware that another $100b was “mysteriouly” leaving electronically!!!! Throughout the ensuing years these numbers have escalated exponentially…well documented by either you, Lucy Komisar, or former Congr. Cynthia McKinney…One now might come to the conclussion that the US Budgetary process ( Rumsfeld’ $4.3 trillion “undocumentable adjustments” from the Pentagon budget or your estimate that $10 trillion is ” missing “; and the Wall Street financial Markets and alonfg with the correlary Hedge Funds and Private Equity banks ( probably we will discover the the Madoff money went offshore also ) are merely “delivery sytems” moving money offshore for the agrandizement of a few well heeled elites….at the expense of the less informed investors. While serving a brief period of federal incarceration ( for a marijuana trafficking conspiracy ) I met a fellow who used an alias who explained his crime had to do with the Children’s Defense Fund ( yes that charity supported by the Clinton’s )–and that it was a “delivery system” for large pallets of cash distributed by C-130’s globally under the protection of the US Navy Seals who were afforded a cut of the proceeds …Somehow some of the money went missing enroute…ooops he took the fall…So when Americans wake up and discover that the “SYSTEM” is systemically corrupt and the laws are designed to control the masses then and only then will change occur….or maybe not!!!Like I began of late I have become very cynical!!!! warm regards, Richard D.
