“The Government has used its power to silence the opposition…”

Our Solari Hero of the Week is federal judge Terry Doughty for ruling the halt of all government officials and agencies from suppressing free speech and violating the First Amendment rights of the American people.

This is a bombshell ruling on the nation’s Day of Independence—nothing short of auspicious, and a strong sign of life of what remains of the rule of law.

In the case of Missouri v. Biden, the heroic judge—who had previously blocked President Biden’s Covid-19 vaccine mandate for health care workers—ordered agencies like the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the FBI, the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the U.S. State Department, as well as specifically named employees and representatives of each, to be “hereby enjoined and restrained” from colluding, communicating, and coordinating with social media companies to flag or remove posts and content “containing protected free speech.”

As Matt Taibbi points out, during the pandemic, demands for the “moderation” of content on social media platforms came from agencies across the federal government—a clear overreach of the government’s constitutional powers.

We are grateful for the monumental investigative work of plaintiffs Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry and Missouri Attorney Andrew Bailey, and we salute the historic decision of federal judge Terry A. Doughty.
