“The Government has used its power to silence the opposition…”

Our Solari Hero of the Week is federal judge Terry Doughty for ruling the halt of all government officials and agencies from suppressing free speech and violating the First Amendment rights of the American people.

This is a bombshell ruling on the nation’s Day of Independence—nothing short of auspicious, and a strong sign of life of what remains of the rule of law.

In the case of Missouri v. Biden, the heroic judge—who had previously blocked President Biden’s Covid-19 vaccine mandate for health care workers—ordered agencies like the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the FBI, the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the U.S. State Department, as well as specifically named employees and representatives of each, to be “hereby enjoined and restrained” from colluding, communicating, and coordinating with social media companies to flag or remove posts and content “containing protected free speech.”

As Matt Taibbi points out, during the pandemic, demands for the “moderation” of content on social media platforms came from agencies across the federal government—a clear overreach of the government’s constitutional powers.

We are grateful for the monumental investigative work of plaintiffs Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry and Missouri Attorney Andrew Bailey, and we salute the historic decision of federal judge Terry A. Doughty.

  1. We too thank Judge Doughty here in Australia as we are about to try and face down a pending misinformation disinformation government bill so his ruling adds fuel to our fire.

    1. Thanks. What has surprised me, and yet not, is that our local TV stations (KNOE – CBS 8; KTVE-NBC10/KARD-FOX14 combination) did not cover this on their local websites. These are the local TV stations for Monroe / West Monroe, Louisiana, so not only is this local news, it is national news. But I guess the out-of-state owners did not feel this was newsworthy. I dropped cable years ago, so only access the local news through their websites. I did try to access their archived news programs from July 4th & 5th, but did not find anything. KTVE did give a link to an Associated Press article, but no local comment. And I certainly have seen no follow-up like you have given here.

  2. Happy that I voted for Jeff Landry for Atty Gen in the 2019 election. Also surprised that something good has come out of our little known, forgotten part of Louisiana. And hard to believe that the ruling was made within 2-1/2 miles of my house! Glad you posted Judge Doughty’s picture. If I see him in the grocery stores or at our 2 local farmers markets or at the mobile fruit stand (peach season here), I’ll be sure to thank him.

    1. Please do Mr James! And for us over in Texas, too. I sent him a thank you note but it’s never too much to thank someone again for standing up for Right!
