Introduction

On 29 November 2022, we published an extensively researched and referenced article in Unlimited Hangout, titled “Covid-19 – Mass Formation or Mass Atrocity?” The article is a critique of Mattias Desmet’s book, The Psychology of Totalitarianism. Our central points are that the psychology of mass atrocity is a more appropriate analytical framework for the abuses of the Covid era than “mass formation,” and that the two analyses are fundamentally incompatible. Throughout our critique we illustrate the ways in which The Psychology of Totalitarianism “paradoxically” and “inadvertently” supports, rather than undermines, the psychological foundations of the Covid era.

Our key points are that The Psychology of Totalitarianism: 1) denies motivated instigation by high-level actors who are causal agents in an atrocity analysis; 2) ignores systematic and coercive state violence and physical aggression in the Covid-19 era; 3) omits mention of harm consistent with a mass atrocity perspective such as foreseeable ‘vaccine’-induced stroke, myocarditis and blood clots, and mass human experimentation, and; 4) devotes an entire chapter to branding those who seek to hold instigators accountable as “conspiracy theorists”, which, even if inadvertent, is in alignment with the repressive machinations of multiple states around the world.

  1. My gosh does the tone of a job interview change once the vaccine issue comes up. I’ve been interviewing for health care administrative type jobs that are remote work. Not sure why this is even a talking point during a job interview, but it comes up every single time. If they demand vaccination I say thanks but no thanks. Others promise exemptions (I may or may not get my “exemption” after being hired, and after I quit the prior job). Would one even qualify for UC if fired for vaccine refusal after exemption denied? Doubt it. Its a really nasty situation. Seems like the employers are far more interested in blind obedience and willingness to risk stroke ect. than they are skill and experience. There are segments of our society where vaccine mandates, masks and demands for blind obedience have not gone away. Rather than beat people up physically in front of the cameras, they beat people up and crush them economically, behind the scenes.

  2. I think “mass formation” is a lie people want to believe, instead of facing the truth that many of their friends and family betrayed them. Very few people want to consider the class implications because it means we haven’t victoriously challenged tyranny, no rather “we” have suffered a massive massacre and haven’t even begun to account for it.

    Above all, I hate the victim blaming. People love to rationalize tragedy after the fact. The refusal to analyze the covid crisis from a class lens betrays a terrible callousness on the part of many. It is hard to ignore that a great deal of the threats and coercion were entirely avoided by being in particular circumstances. Yet many of these same people will turn around and say “Nobody forced you/them”, or rationalize the harm in different ways.

    I’m tired of seeing great Canadians being entirely abandoned by the “community”. It was rigged from the start, if the shots don’t get people the poverty will. It’s entirely unfair to blame individuals for being caught off guard by such a comprehensive and evil plot. There are many in authority (who continue to hold office) despite having a duty to act differently. I can’t defend a society that continues to grace these people with status and prestige while our real heroes are neglected. Sure things can change in a “big picture” kind of way, but that means little to the many who have already lost it all.

    Small style complaint regarding the first ~20 seconds of the video:
    “Logic is the enemy and truth is a menace” is something that comes across as strange to start with. Personally, I can’t see how it wouldn’t be immediately off-putting.
