1. Catherine. Subscribers may find of interest Merck pharmaceutical company’s philanthropic work in Global Health:
   Below is a link to the Merck for Mothers global health initiative. The link provides a glimpse of philanthropic work the corporation engages in, global partnerships and various health initiatives including family planning child immunization, and their ‘Transformation through Digital Innovation” initiatives. This builds on the article posted this week on Merck’s work with CCG on Global Facility Assessments, including pilot build outs of large web-based enterprise digital platforms designed to capture and store health records of infants starting from birth in selected countries (prototypes). At birth children are entered into the digital system and then is designed to track the child’s immunization status and other milestone health events. There is a heavy focus on family planning and child immunization health initiatives and they have teamed up with groups like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, JPHIEGO, and PATH among others. The platforms are designed for data entry on mobile phones and tablets and stored in large global relational databases.

   These are examples of the increased interest in pharmaceutical company philanthropy interests in helping to build out global digital health record platforms aimed at improving health delivery locally, ensure better data for decision-making, and, of course to expand market shares.
