1. Scroogle.org is an option.

   An ad-free Google search proxy which prevents the searcher’s data being stored by Google, a Firefox plugin, and tools for webmasters.

2. I share your concern. There apparently are ways to google anonymously, tho I’m not geeky enough to tell if these genuinely work the way they are supposed to or not (how can one tell?):
