“What I am recommending now is for someone to join an existing community…. You’ve got to meet people in your neighborhood. So, that means joining the neighborhood watch program, or the block parent program, or join a service club like the Rotarians, the Lions Club, or certainly your local church.”

Have you ever known someone who was good at just about everything, knew a lot about everything, and spoke with a confidence and wisdom that only comes from many years of experience? If you’ve never met anyone like that before, this Solution Series episode will, no doubt, be quite a treat for you.
The man whose attributes we have just so aptly outlined is Canadian author, researcher, and adventurer Stefan Verstappen. With volumes and volumes of books inside his head and years and years of experience, Verstappen is a true Renaissance Man and an educator of the people.
At Verstappen’s website, which lists “the complete works of Stefan Verstappen,” you can gain invaluable insights into the main thrust of his work, which is building communities with the goal of long-term sustainability and community preparedness.
Verstappen notes that he himself is part of a larger community of about 40 people and their families, “all working together to support each other.” In addition to growing food, the community has a medical team as well as communications and security teams.
Our interview with Verstappen could be compared to an afternoon chat with a very wise uncle, one who has spent many years and hours preparing for the times that we are living in now. This episode is one you’re not going to want to miss!

great presentation–comprehensive in a short format.
An extreme scenario is where food / water run short, but a more likely scenario is where manufactured consumer goods stop coming, say due to a Taiwan conflict. Imagine where no spare parts, appliances, electronics are coming in. Car repair, household heat / cooling, refrigeration, plumbing etc. can be affected. Most of the prepper stuff is Made in China. Deciding whether to store rice in a plastic bucket or in a vacum sealed bag is irrelevant if the bucket or vacum sealer are not available at the store
That is an extremely difficult and more probable scenario.
I agree. I don’t know where to start. I find I’m all over the place psychology speaking. One day I’m focused on quality fruit and vegetable seeds, the next I’m scouring property across the states that’s still affordable AND has access to water. Even if I managed to get the seeds and the land, there are hundreds of other things that need to be done.
Just do what you can each day. Step by step. Remember you can also grow indoors. I call it turtling. You want to keep trying things and learning in a positive direction.
I can’t believe I’m actually having this conversation.
Lots of valuable information provided in this episode, thank you Corey, James and Stefan! Towards the end of this episode Corey mentions a resource page; would someone be able to direct us towards it/provide a link?

Jody is right; Doug and Stacy has a good practical compost toilet system that works if you have the space. Having been raised several years in the 70’s with a Vermont soapstone woodstove- they work great and can easily heat the entire house if you have vents installed near the ceiling with fans. It’s a good idea having several heating options depending on your specific circumstances and location. I love the concept this Nebraska fruit farmer has with utilizing the earth to assist in heating the greenhouse/residence. https://youtu.be/ZD_3_gsgsnk
Thanks Michael. Loved the Nebraska citrus grower!
Here’s a better solution, imo, for a composting toilet. https://offgridwithdougandstacy.com/videos/
Thanks for this valuable information. Toward the end of the video, a resource page is mentioned. Is this the page?

Dear Catherine
Thank you for this upcoming video with Stefan Verstappen. Am very much looking forward to.
I can warmly recommend his online-consultations.
Yes, this was inspired by a consultation that I participated in last year.
How exciting! Richard Grove’s Autonomy Course introduced me to Stefan and his work. Looking forward to 22nd!
