About Our Beloved Georgie:

Georgie was born to James Allen and Elizabeth (Parker) Branham in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. All of her siblings (Amanda, Eleanor, James, McKinley, and Phillip) preceded their sister in death. She graduated from West Philadelphia High School. In 1947, she married the late Harry Edward LaRue, and from this union came their beloved daughter Linda.

For thirty-four years, Georgie was employed as a Contract Specialist for the United States Navy Aviation Depot and received numerous awards for her service.  Georgie loved to travel, and has been in almost every state of the union, on numerous cruises and visited Paris, London and numerous countries and cities throughout Europe and in the Caribbean, Latin America and Africa.

Georgie established a scholarship fund in memory of her mother at the Monumental Baptist Church in 1991. She was a founding member of the Gaskins, Hopkins Pride Scholarship Committee at Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church, where she was a member for 78 years.  A tither, she also supported the El Shaddai Greater Works Ministry of Mt. Pisgah.

Georgie faithfully served for twenty years as President of Ladies Auxiliary of Ushers, who honored her in 2007 for over thirty-five years of discipleship. She taught in Church School and Vacation Bible School; and she belonged to the Historical Committee. She was a former Women’s Day Chairperson, and a Trustee Emeritus. She was also elected to be a delegate for the First District Annual Conference. Georgie was presented the Christian Leadership Award under the pastorship of the Reverend James L. Dandridge.

Georgie was very active in her community.  She was elected Block Captain by her neighbors in West Philadelphia and regularly served as a volunteer at the polls on election days. She was a subscribing member of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

In 2004, Georgie moved from her long-time home on 54th Street in Philadelphia to Simpson Gardens in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. She was elected Vice-President and subsequently President of the Simpson Garden Council, and Chairperson of the Sunshine Committee. She was also a regular attendee at the Simpson Garden Bible Study.

We leave to cherish her memory: her loving daughter Linda; her faithful adopted niece, Valda Branison; devoted cousins, Herman Smith, Velta Pelham, Cynthia Davis, Bertha Rucker, Rebecca White, Trudy Charles a host of nieces, nephews, and in-laws; her Godchild, Sandra Settle Roy; and a host of friends, including Dr. Stacey Settle and Catherine Austin Fitts.

Go in peace and with joy, Georgie!
