Every day, the reasons to take charge of our health care grow. So do the benefits of preventive health care. This book can help. I read it because one subscriber kept pestering me to read and review it.
In Why We Get Sick, scientist and pathophysiology professor Benjamin Bikman explores why insulin resistance has become so prevalent and why it matters. Indeed, reducing insulin resistance has the potential to significantly reduce a wide array of chronic diseases. According to Bikman, over half the adults in the United States are insulin-resistant.
Bikman explains what is happening and why. He then explains what each of us can do to identify and reverse insulin resistance, offering practical suggestions for diet, exercise, and daily living.
If you are worried about Covid-19, you are likely worried about a statistically insignificant health risk. Bikman explains a health risk that is statistically very significant. That means it is worth worrying about—and worth considering the plan that Bikman puts forward, which many of us could benefit from integrating.
This is a good book, well written and quite useful—a serious reminder that we have the power to stop poisoning ourselves.

As an addendum to my comments on the carnivore diet, I thought it might be important to add that I had blood work done before I started the diet and about 8 mos into it. I had Polymyalgia with my sed rate and C reactivate protein through the roof. I was also overweight. I was also borderline diabetic, had asthma and hypothyroidism. By the time I had my 2nd blood work done, I had lost 30 lbs, my inflammation was way down and my sugar and thyroid within normal range. I felt and looked great. My Dr asked what I had done to improve so much. I told him a little hesitantly I had started a carnivore diet. He started laughing because he’d been on one for 20 years. After I had covid, every thing went haywire again. But thanks to knowledgeable Drs on FLCCC.NET prescribing ivermectin, hydroxychloroquine and lots of supplements, and getting off being on histamine foods and back on straight carnivore because I had added yogurt and cheese, I’m improving after a year. My blood pressure was running 200 and above. I had a hole in my right ventricle and my lungs were damaged so breathing has been a challenge. I’m allergic to everything so it’s been a struggle to keep my bp down. I’ve had 3 TIAs. No one had any idea what was wrong. My own research and my family’s led me to a diagnosis and help from Frontline Doctors and on FLCCC.NET . I think I’ll make it and prayers were my foundation as I searched for answers. I share this in the hopes it may help someone who may be going through similar experiences with CV19. God bless us as we all connect learning and sharing with a wonderful Host and teacher in Catherine.
Very mixed reviews. Evidently all about insulin resistance, which evidently is a very good, in-depth discussion; but not so good on remedies, other than going on a Keto diet, which is not in the future for me.
I first heard him speak from BYU on The Plague of Prosperity. I was very sick at the time praying for guidance. He was an answer. I went on to Joe Rogan and Dr Shawn Baker and many other physicians talking about the same thing. I started following Dr Shawn Baker on the carnivore diet and saw great improvement in my health. I am now fighting long haul covid but after 3 years am still on the diet and feel as though it and Dr Haider on FLCCC.NET have helped save my 83 year old life.. I’ve listened to most of Dr Bickmans lectures on YouTube. He too is a hero in my book of learning. Thank you for promoting him.
That’s amazing! You could consider making a YouTube video about your experience with the diet. I’m transitioning to Paleolithic Ketogenic at the moment.
Most of the Drs I learned from started out that way moving away from a mostly plant based high carb diet because they were all sick. Dr Jordan Peterson and his daughter Mckaila, Dr Shawn Baker, Dr Saladino, and many more. Even Joe Rogan is on it. There was a Carnivore Conference in Colorado discussing the reasons why so many people were recovering from illnesses on the diet..They had great discussions trying to find answers, heart Surgeons, orthopedic Surgeons, Psychologist, and many others. You can probably find it on YouTube. Dr Baker has a website and newsletter MeatRx.com. I was determined to get well and researched everything I could for 6 months before I made the leap. It worked for me..Good luck!
An older documentary, but very germane to this book is called Fathead. It looks like the full thing is on YouTube, too!
