“If the artilect [artificial intellect] can be made intelligent, using neuroscience principles, it could be made to be truly godlike, massively intelligent and immortal.”
The Artilect War: Will AI Be the Death of Us? with Dr. Hugo de Garis
Another excellent interview conducted by Harry Blazer, who speaks with theoretical physicist Dr. Hugo de Garis on the nature of artificial intelligence and the many risks of its implementation. The conversation expands into an intriguing exploration of what AI means to governance and centralized market control.
Highly recommended.

I am so glad the team posted this. As it has allayed any concerns I may have had about the likelihood of a Skynet style AI takeover. How can you possibly create something you don’t even know the definition of ? Nearly turned it off 20 mins in after such a narrow minded and laughable definition of “intelligence” from this “expert”, but so glad I didn’t. Because it gave the absolutely brilliant interviewer, Harry Blazer, whom I’d never heard speak before but sure want to hear speak again, the opportunity to shut down all his arguments and intellectual jargon and prove there is absolutely no threat here whatsoever. Trust a musician to display genuine intelligence.
The intellect (Dr) negated his own argument without even realising when he described his Chinese students as lacking in creativity, as a reason as to why they bring in Westerners to teach. He unwittingly described exactly why no man will ever create a machine brain with “God like” intelligence… that would require an incredible and otherworldly display of creativity. If he can’t teach that to his Chinese students, how on earth could he create a machine that possesses such creative intelligence. Fortunately for us, the intelligent, philosophical musician has that covered. ?
I am however, much more concerned about the points Harry Blazer raised during the interview, and the likelihood of humanity being erased by technocrats turning humans into slave machines through a control grid, as opposed to machines become more intelligent than humans. That’s why all this DNA and RNA meddling is so frightening!!
My concern is that AI could turn out to be a very effective cover story. We go from “Mommy, Mommy, the aliens made me do it” to “Mommy, Mommy, the AI did it, not me.”
That’s an excellent point, I hadn’t thought of that… the legal implications for one!! They’re already trying to get out of liability when accidents occur with self driving Tesla’s and the like…
