“In our society, growing food yourself has become the most radical of acts. It is truly the only effective protest, one that can—and will—overturn the corporate powers that be. By the process of directly working in harmony with nature, we do the one thing most essential to change the world—we change ourselves!” ~ Jules Dervaes
More and more people today are seriously thinking about growing their own food, at least some of it.
Listen to Harry Blazer interviewing Anais Dervaes of Urban Homestead. The Dervaes family transformed their 1917 home in a residential area of Pasadena in Southern California to be able to grow food on 1/10th of an acre for their family, with plenty to share or sell.
I guess it is an act of protest, I have been doing it so long, yet I turn on the TV and the Covid propaganda is still going, don’t feel like I am overturning any corporate power when I see that.
I will say this, minimizing the times I go to the corporate supermarkets is nice. I am trying to minimize that even more and I am now trying to wean myself off Amazon.
Thats why I always ask, anyone in central Texas make their own soap? You have a faithful customer here if you reach out to me. Ask Richard and Lisa. Who are Richard and Lisa? They are my egg farmers and this past weekend they shared some of their summer squash harvest to go along with my order of eggs for the week. Now that felt revolutionary, building community with my farmer to the extent we are now sharing produce even. I promised them a harvest of my cucumbers next time I go buy more eggs.
