Always useful to have access to a healthy dose of laughter if the cold keeps you indoors on long winter evenings, or if you want to find the merriment of the season.
This List of the 20 Funniest Movies was first published in 2008, republished in December 2020, and has grown over the years with wonderful additions from Solari subscribers. Enjoy!
One of my favorite old movies is Double Wedding with William Powell. I never get tired of the ending and erupt in spasms of laughter every time I watch it!
Have not seen. On the list!
As a fan of old movies several of my personal favorites include Bringing up Baby with Hepburn and Grant and a Christmas classic that I always take time to watch starring Barbara Stanwyck is Christmas in Connecticut – too funny. When I need a severe dose of nostalgia, A tree grows in Brooklyn—don’t forget the Kleenex.
Wonderful lists we need that tension relief.
I loved Danny Devito’s Other Peoples Money
And The Odd Couple with Jack Lemon and Walter Matthew.
Broadway Danny Rose I know Woody but Mia Farrow is fantastic, Dr Stranglove seems appropriate Peter Sellers is amazing!
As a Philadelphian who was a young kid when the Flyers won the Stanley Cup, Slapshot with its Hanson brothers is an all time favorite. Crude, yes, but so was Philadelphia and it’s Flyers of the time, on which the movie was based. I still pull up movie clips of those Hanson brothers when I need a laugh or want to go back in my mind to a time and a place – namely 1974 Philadelphia
Will check out. I don’t know it.
His Girl Friday is a great comedy – My Cousin Vinney also. Both extremely well written and performed. The Devil and Miss Jones is a perfect comedy for what is going on now.
One of my all time favorites is “The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek”. With Betty Hutton and Eddie Bracken. I can never watch it without getting a stitch in my side from laughing. https://www.xappie.com/image.php?width=209&height=311&image=./uploads/ott/profile_tt0037077.jpg
Then there is “Blazing Saddles”, “Young Frankenstein” both politically and socially incorrect. You have now triggered me to search for laughter!
‘The InLaws ‘with Peter Falk…I think it is hilarious also love ‘You Can’t Take it With You’..Barrymore, Jimmy Stewart
Good ones.
I’m a bit surprised that no one mentioned “I ♥ Huckabees”. I’ve been dragging that movie out whenever I need a pick-me-up since it released in 2004.
