I just read a post indicating that the purchase of guns by Americans in 2008 was running at an average of 3 million a quarter and that we purchased approximately 1.5 billion rounds of ammunition in December. So, for purposes of estimation, let’s say that currently the purchase of guns and ammunition is running at approximately 12 million guns and 12 billion bullets annually. This compares to $12 trillion in bailouts for bankers over the period.

Grossly oversimplified, this means for every $1,000,000 that the banks got, Americans withdrew sufficient funds from the banking and brokerage system to buy 1 gun and 10,000 bullets.

  1. I live in Massachusetts. Gov. Duval is proposing new gun legislation to reform existing law.The level of distrust towards gun owners in this legislation is palpable. Gun reform legislation from 1998 has resulted in reducing licensed gun owners from 1.25 million to .25 million. Current proposals ought to reduce this even further. I fought like hell to get my handgun permit. People here are lethargic as to civic responsibilities. Pro Deo et Pro Patria.
