The fires burning through the land, redwood forests, homes and businesses in Napa, Sonoma, Solano and Mendocino counties as well as Nevada, Lake, Yuba, and Butte counties are devastating – far more devastating than may first appear from media reports.  These fires have killed 40 people with more missing. More than 180,000 acres have been burnt, with more than 7.500 homes and businesses now estimated destroyed. The patterns of scattered fires occurring spontaneously and moving quickly with high winds leave people surprised in their homes with little time to escape. Surrounding communities are terrified that they may be next.

This brings the total land area impacted by fire in California during 2017 to 853,457 acres

Please keep the people of Northern California in your prayers. Please pray for fire fighters, sheriffs and police, utility and relief workers. Please continue to pray for the people in other areas of California, Texas, Montana, Oregon and Washington harmed by fire this year and those in Houston,  Florida, Puerto Rico and Caribbean islands hit by hurricanes.

Many of our fellow humans are struggling with devastating loss – both in North American and around the world. This is a time to give thanks for our many blessings and do what we can to help. If anyone in the counties impacted in Northern California has recommendations as to what local relief organizations and families in need we should direct our donations to, please post here or let me know.
