Now that all the money is safely offshore, and the Countrywide mortgage operations are tucked into Bank of America, will Countrywide’s founder Angelo Mozilo be used as one of the whipping boys to tell the ‘official story’ of the mortgage bubble?
While holding Mozilo accountable will provide entertainment and affirm the system, crime that pays is crime that stays. The folks who engineered this mess get to keep their mortgage bubble and bailout profits and the operation lives on to make them money and blow more bubbles another day.

@Catherine: Just returned from my day slogging it out w/ my mainstream occupation…PLEASE excuse all the spelling and other errors!!! As you might have been aware, I sat here in the predawn and banged it out…. You honor me with your kind gestures…so allow me to thank you well in advance of a meeting that may or may not ever occur. These comments which I transcibe through your blog are very therapeutic….I also add my “musings” to the http://www.maxkeiser.com comment section on his blog/website….and to a friend in London http://bcreative.blogspot.com ( Tonybeingcreative). As you have a well thought out position concerning the gold standard and gold in general…and after all, I do wear a Black Hill’s gold ring….I wonder if you have become familiar with (Dr.?) Adrian Salbuchi from Argentina? He has several youtube videos on the current financial “meltdown”….one video proposed that a two tiered gold standard replace the dollar reserve currency….The one held by the central banks would have a RFID chip inserted ( attached ??) and would have a high valuation;…the other would be available as a public commodity at the prevailing market valuation…I guess we could use anything to replace the fiat currency system…after all it is currently held together by mere acceptance ( “full faith and credit” ??). But that could be many decades away….as it may be in the plans to somehow reduce the 1.5 quadrillion in derivatives/CDS’s to some “managable” amount and then pay it down through taxes…Yeh..that’s right….take some fraudulent paper and actually place a value on it and pay off the holders!!!! Michael Greenberger ( former FCTC commisssioner ) was on C-Span today….answering many callers’ questions…He is now a professor and has a genuine view of the Ponzi scheme. He even surprised the commentator by calling the CDS’s “bets” and the derivative marketplace a “casino”…Clearly we are supposed to allow most of the perpetrators to maintain there positions of power and wealth…Yet we will have a regulatory system in place just in case of future malapropisms….Of course this will exclude the Hedge Funds who will remain unregulated….How bizarre!!! The Bilderberger Hotel group is again meeting in Greece this week…As I previously noted in a past comment: the WETHEPEOPLE.com folks are headed to Jekyll Island next week…they call for a Second Continental Congress ( as opposed to a US Constitutional Convention-which would be brokered by the speculators and fraudsters )…Any thoughts??? Redardless of this chatter, I am pleased that you have those happy earky morning moments…warm regards, Richard
Richard:
What a fine laugh I have had sitting in the Buffalo River Coffee Company back room, having my morning coffee and reading your musings.
Excellence must be its own reward…..which it is.
I just spent an evening at “The Shoe” — the Sanders house in the woods. It feels like living in a tree house. We had one of the finest dinners I have ever had — did the Solari Report — and stayed up late talking and talking.
When I showered, Franklin had St. Patrick’s prayer in a plastic bag hanging from the shower head. Then scrambled eggs, fresh from a local farmer. Then off with the Grand Pyrenees and hound dog baying me farewell to drive to lovely Hohenwald.
Yes, all is right with the world this morning no matter how much dirty money circles the planet,
Catherine
Catherine: And I thought I was the loan cynic!!!HA!HA! Imo now that we live in a global Ponzi scheme and the entire physical economy as we once knew is in tatters…only and again imo the creative and flexible minded entrepeneur will once more rise to the ocassion and recreate new forms of economic viability ( see various media reports about hemp farming, marijuana decriminalization, solar and wind generation, algae grown from excessive carbon emissions as a liquid fuel, ‘clean coal’–whatever that is!!) ) : I remember the WHOLE EARTH CATALOG of old…the ‘back to the land movement'( and in Tenn THE FARM, in NM THE HOG FARM and throughout the NW and NE the many communes and collectives );and rearranging the chess pieces to provide for the greater good…Always recreating one’s self as the next best occupation whatever that turned out to be…my eldest is an avid rock and mountain climber, my next eldest daughter is afer years of owning a private martial arts srudio w/ ner boyfriend is now a private tutor to a wealthy family ( something I imagined for myself at her age ); the next one down has a growing global clientel in Vinyasa yoga instruction and Thai massage training; and finally my youngest ( a former elementary ed trained ) daughter has recreated her talents in the field of personal hygiene as an text book assessment editor for McGraw-Hill ( an S & P subsidiary ), an esthetician/Thai yoga massage practitioner…If only the creative juices that are stiffled in the vaults and minds of corporate america could become unleashed…I remember the age old rumor that GE had in their vaults the patent for the lightbulb that never needed replacing…Goodyear had the patent on the tire that never wore out…that quite possibly the inventor of ‘cold fussion’ was assasinated by the various fuel source cartels to prevent a cheaper form of electrical power…and on and on…It was the Carter years when I found interest in solar power( and discovered that a battle had brewed between Edison and Westinghouse about whether localized small 12v power generation v. huge AC grid power stations should take hold )….now one of my daughter’s boyfriends has a “green job” as a windill farm mantenance crew supervisor. He sends photos through facebook of himself tied onto 100 foot windmill blades doing the maintenance. Wow!! I thought my former gutsy logging days were exotic… So yes we will have our Mozillos and Madoffs and Stanfords to rake across the coals…But down deep the knowledge that the system as we know is corrupt….is at the core of our dillusion with the mainstream economy..gone are the MSM TV market watch programs that enticed us to see any uptick in the stock market report as a sign of shared prosperity ( Kudlow’s vaccuous remarks about ‘supply side economics’ being responsible along with the Laffer curve as the sole justification for prosperity when in reality it merely rearranged the players from the middle/lower class( 401k investors to upper investment class). And we bought into it!!! Hell they wore pink ties and grey silk suits…HA!!! Well Catheine, keep sending out your message ( notice that Porter Goss is once more in the news cycle–he and Dusty Fogo, Felx Rodriguez, and even the late Barry Seal and the like go way back in the corruption business–see http://www.madcowmorningnews.com for some historical references )…Hope this finds in the garden of life. as always, Richard (theoldwiseman)
