“There are some things the general public does not need to know and shouldn’t. I believe democracy flourishes when the government can take legitimate steps to keep its secrets and when the press can decide whether to print what it knows.” ~~ Katharine Graham, former Washington Post owner

By Catherine Austin Fitts

Given our wonderful Food for the Soul columnist’s review of The Post, I had to add my two cents on Katharine Graham and the Washington Post.

On my next Money & Markets I will review the new Netflix series Wormwood regarding the CIA execution of CIA scientist Frank Olson.

As part of that review, I will discuss my experience with Katharine Graham and the Washington Post, including their role in the cover-ups of the Kennedy Assassination, the Dark Alliance crack cocaine epidemic, the Franklin pedophilia scandal and $21 trillion missing from the US government.

I will also review Katharine Grahm’s personal leadership in the destruction of place-based financial disclosure and Hamilton Securities, the engineering of the private prison industry and the housing bubble – which included profits from gentrification in Southeast Washington DC for Graham and her friends and associates. Not to mention Post board member Warren Buffett’s role as well.

I will also mention Peter Janey’s description of Washington Post Editor Ben Bradlee’s role in the assassination of his sister-in-law and President Kennedy’s mistress and ally Mary Meyer. Bradlee got a Washington Post promotion but his marriage fell apart.

The new movie The Post was created and rushed to the public to help bolster a brand that deserves to fail. It is sad to see that much talent used to try to save the prestige of failing fake news and the intelligence agency in Langley, Virginia that’s uses it to mock you and me.

The Hollywood game of engineering admiration for the people who engineered the financial coup d’etat will continue as long as we permit it. Despite Tom Hanks and an all-star cast, my vote would be to boycott The Post and check out Wormwood at Netflix.

Or, if you do see The Post, enjoy the entertainment as good fiction. Any notion that the Washington Post or Katherine Graham represent transparency or democracy is indeed fiction.

  1. Catherine, did you know that Ridley Scott released in Sept. 2017 a movie called “Mark Felt, The Man Who Brought Down The White House”? There was no push to the movie and at the beginning of this month I think it grossed only about 1 million dollars. Since Watergate could not have been Watergate without the direction of Deep Throat (Mark Felt) to Woodward & Bernstein, one could say the dark state greatly influenced Nixon leaving the White House. The story as I understand is Mark Felt was Hoover’s choice to be the head of the FBI, but Nixon decided on L. Patrick Gray. So there was bad blood by Mark Felt.

Now isn’t Ridley Scott remarkable. He is 80 years of age and still running strong. I see he has in works (you will love this) a TV series called “Strange Angel” about Jack Parsons and his fascination with Aleister Crowley.

  2. I also all pray all the truth comes out and secrets are revealed in 2018. Wasn’t the Post the first to push the “fake news sites” hit list targeting internet New Media too? I have to hand it to you Catherine for your reasoned comment –my thoughts: the Post is totally discredited, it wouldn’t even make good toilet paper.

    1. 🙂

When I was in Washington this fall, the Post was available in the hotel. It was noticeably thin and empty. There is less and less to discuss that is “safe.” How many cooking articles can you have? Still, they had an occasional interesting piece – the advantage of insider information and a wealth of resources. However, the economics only work if people believe the fake stuff.

  3. Ben Bradlee: If we don’t hold them accountable, who will?
Kay Graham: We can’t hold them accountable if we don’t have a newspaper.” Dialogue from the THE POST

Goodness, if I here someone say this on screen with a straight face I think I’ll be ill.

The fact that Hollywood has a game of engineering admiration for criminals is astounding and so wrong. I am so sick of it. But, I also find it nearly impossible to get some people to see reality even when you give tons of evidence to the contrary.

  4. I dare say our marvelous columnist and critic did not realize that Katharine Graham had a very major hand in destroying Hamilton Securities Group. I believe if the truth ever came out, the Washington Post may owe me a pretty penny!

    1. I pray that the truth comes out and you are compensated!

I pray the truth comes out in many arenas. To think Katherine(and so many others) had the power to publish the truth about so many affairs and chose to enrich herself and her friends instead is pretty dar-n sad.

If one can do good. One should.

      Best to you!

  6. Thank you for this. When I saw the post for “Food For The Soul: The Post and Darkest Hour” I was surprised and amazed. I have read Mary’s Mosaic, The Devil’s Chessboard and many more of the books on your lists and I could not imagine why any film would praise the Post. Thank you for a deeper story and I doubt I will use up precious time watching the propaganda film.

Thank you for all you do and have a marvelous New Year! I feel it will be remarkable.

    All the Best, Sandra
