From “Planting Seeds” in The Guardian in January:

“Bill and Melinda Gates hate controversy, but the world’s top philanthropists do seem to be moving ever deeper into political lobbying. They’ve just given the Danforth plant science centre in St Louis $5.4m (£3.8m) to help them persuade African and other poor countries to “overcome regulatory hurdles” and allow the field testing of bio-fortified GM crops. So what is Danforth? Just a “charity” set up and funded by Monsanto.” (Ref: Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; please also see The Guardian’s clarification of the above statement.)

From Wikipedia:

“The Svalbard Global Seed Vault is a secure seedbank located on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen near the town of Longyearbyen in the remote Arctic Svalbard archipelago. The facility was established to preserve a wide variety of plant seeds from locations worldwide in an underground cavern. The Seed Vault holds duplicate samples, or “spare” copies, of seeds held in genebanks worldwide. The Seed Vault will provide insurance against the loss of seeds in genebanks, as well as a refuge for seeds in the case of large scale regional or global crises. The island of Spitsbergen is about 1,120 kilometres (700 mi) from the North Pole.”

The Gates Foundation has also donated $34.6 million to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, along with contributions from DuPont and the Rockefeller Foundation.

Now why would the Gates Foundation want to use its resources to force indigenous farmers to destroy their seed supply while the Foundation was financing the ultimate seed bank?

Think about it…

  1. Every American should start growing a garden in their back yards this year. Use nothing but open pollinated, heirloom seeds. Grow one type of each so you keep the type pure. No cross pollination. Have your neighbors grow other types and trade. Anyone with larger lots should grow some wheat and barley and corn. Save the seed. Pass it around. We can start our own “growing seed bank.”
Thank you for this article Catherine. they are up to no good!

  2. I see the guardian has posted a correction regarding the Danforth centre and Monsanto. Even with the correction I still don’t trust Monsanto.

  3. Sadie — I’m bummed out. Couldn’t find the documentary “The World According to Monsanto” on Netflix. Also, not in my local library. Must be a conspiracy…LOL. Any thoughts on where this may be available?

  4. Thanks to MikeW and Catherine for the reply. It’s interesting to think that they can make a bubble out of fiat currency. Insane, actually.

As for seed monopolists, all you have to do is look up the documentary “The World According to Monsanto” and you begin to realize how fragile our world is since GMO seeds have taken over. Or read something by Vandana Shiva, or Michael Pollan. The seed banks seem to be their back-up plan, in case GMO doesn’t work out the way they ‘planned’.

  5. Catherine, I would ask that you elaborate some on your prior post “…watch out for green investing bubble helping the powers that be control real solutions.” Would like to hear more of your thoughts on this subject.

  6. This is fascinating. Thank you so much for this post and this site.
I’m so glad that I have the resources which allow me to learn about what is happening around me, but because of people like the Rockefellers and the Gates I’m afraid that this easy and free access of information will not be available in the near future. Not to mention, by the way things are going, and have been going for decades, I don’t see any sort of easy or free access to anything in the years to come.
Considering they’ve already monopolized the technology market, the seed vaults and food/water markets (watch the documentary Flow), I don’t see the prospect of freedom and the pursuit of happiness fitting in anywhere in their new world order.
This disgusting abuse of power and money needs to end, now.

  7. I vote with MikeW. The fiat currency bubble is underway and will drain tremendous resources.

Coming behind that, I would vote to watch out for a green investing bubble helping the powers that be control real solutions.

  8. IMHO, the next “bubble” will be (this is already primed in the “pipeline”) the huge increase in the amount of “fiat currency” being produced. First, our wealth and standard of living has been deflated away. Then, under the ‘sky is falling” financial doomsday story, they create a huge public debt burden on future generations by printing more and more worthless money. This explosion in fiat money will inevitably drive up the cost of essential commodities, thus confiscating whatever little wealth you have left just to sustain life and ensuring that our children and grandchildren will become indentured servants to the public debt and the taxes required to pay it back.

My 2 cents worth. Next bubble is lots of currency circulating that won’t buy much of anything. Won’t matter whether you hold Dollars, Euros, or whatever.

  9. Catherine,

I’ve recently discovered your site and I’m finding it to be a fascinating treasure-trove of insight and knowledge.

I know this is a bit off-topic from your post, but I wonder if you have any ideas as to what the next ‘bubble’ might be? I can’t see big corporate-driven government turning away from a technique that has made them so rich, so I just assume that there is a new bubble in the works. Which area do you think they might exploit next? Which area is ripe for inflating? If we had some ideas maybe we could manage things accordingly.

    Thanks,

    Sadie

  10. Re: Kevin Taylor, thank you for that link. I have a friend and compatriot who has warned of the coming genetic patenting. This order seems like a tip of an iceberg and I don’t know if we are going to see the end of it any time soon. But I have to go ahead and say that all of this is only the capitulation of market capital and the zombie corpse of capitalism slithering and writhing toward its rightful place at the top of the tower of Babel. This Frankenstein can be stopped.

  11. “Seeds of Democracy” is how F. William Engdahl describes Coalition Provisional Order 81 which gave Agribusiness patent rights on seeds in Iraq. Yes indeed it is always the same group of people that gain for themselves and leave a wide path of destruction for the rest of us to endure. Thanks, Catherine for this post.

  12. Thank you for this post Ms. Fitts.

“The Gates Foundation has also donated $34.6 million to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault, along with contributions from DuPont and the Rockefeller Foundation.”

The interesting thing to me is how in all of these highly controversial, political, and economic moves all around the world you see the same names over and over again. Cui Bono, right? It’s good that you posted this. That way we know where to go to get back our food seeds once we take care of the Pro Centralization Team.

Thanks again for the information. Much appreciated and have a good one.

  13. The Evil Empire at its worst. Thank you Billy Billerton and Lindy Helperton for making life so _Chemical_! “Better Life Through Chemistry.” We’ll soon have this messy planet whirring like a well-oiled machine! Do they have “tech support” for seeds that “go wrong?”

  14. Likewise, seemingly intelligent people applaud the Bill and Melinda Gates’s Foundation for their stated goal of vaccinating each and every third world child without a question. Thanks for shining the light once again into the rats lair.
