With family in Pennsylvania, last week Catherine was able to watch the turning of the leaves in the autumn foliage and enjoyed the start of fox hunting season.
Catherine herself was a big horse rider in her early years and knows the fun and excitement of the hunting sport.
The Rondo Allegro of Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 4 in E-flat major wonderfully captures the energy of the hunters’ party sallying forth in the early morning hours to follow packs of dogs hunting a fox by scent.
This performance by the Dresden Philharmonic and hornist Sebastian Weigle, today principal conductor of the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra (Tokyo), is of particular elegance and buoyancy.

Aw, that Mozart horn concerto was uplifting and beautiful and brought back great memories. I had lived in MD horse country for 40 years, and in the autumn through to Thanksgiving, the fox and hound chase oftentimes came across my property and neighboring fields wt the horn blaring, calling in the scattered hounds. It was such a tradition in the MD horse countryside, and Mozart’s piece triggered some wonderful memories for me. Thank you, sincerely. Paula
IMO, no better sport….all ages, outside, bonding with horses and hounds, hoping for a good run and that the fox will get away. Now with the glorious golden fall, is spectacular.
What a lovely sight to imagine hounds chasing a fox across your property in the open fields with the horn a’blarin’.
