In Let’s Go to the Movies, I will review the winner of the Solari Report Documentary of the Year for 2019—Harry & Snowman. Despite watching scores of more recent documentaries over the last year, I am reaching back several years for Ron Davis’ outstanding documentary with a message appropriate for the year ahead. From the Harry & Snowman website:

“Dutch immigrant, Harry deLeyer, journeyed to the United States after World War II and developed a transformative relationship with a broken down Amish plow horse he rescued off a slaughter truck bound for the glue factory. Harry paid eighty dollars for the horse and named him Snowman. In less than two years, Harry & Snowman went on to win the triple crown of show jumping, beating the nation’s blue bloods…. Their chance meeting at a Pennsylvania horse auction saved them both and crafted a friendship that lasted a lifetime.”

This is a story about the power of love—it’s the kind of power we want in our lives in 2020.

In Money & Markets this week, I will discuss the financial and geopolitical news and say more on what to watch for in 2020. E-mail your questions for Ask Catherine or post at the Money & Markets commentary here.

Talk to you Thursday

  1. I was told that Zhu Min had stated before the US housing market collapsed that the only serious weakness that worried him was the US housing mortgage market. I interpreted that to mean he understand that the relationship of the bubble to what the housing market could carry was sufficiently out of balance to threaten the global system. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhu_Min_(economist)

  2. Greetings Catherine
I have a few comments about Joseph speaking of railroads & planes changing the world.
Today, we are obsessed with time.
Years ago, villages, towns, and small cities across America & Europe kept their own local time.
As cities & towns grew, they began to use astronomical time.
The railroads stretching across the States & territories of America with the telegraph demanded higher standard of time.
The industrial revolution & mass production and now hi tech technology has created time as a despotic dictator demanding greater production using time as a whip.

Time with the three dimensions of height, length & width is fundamental to our modern day existence.
    Time has become our taskmaster.

For secular man, time itself is worshiped.
For Christians, time is the motion toward His coming.
The secular mind worships time; Christian worship its Creator.

Where is some of the $21 Trillion going? Maybe it has to do with the Asteroid “Apophis” that is due for a very close flyby (some say impact) in 2029. Maybe time to look for some property in Luray VA.? And why are elites moving to an earthquake ridden New Zealand? Could it be that is opposite location on the globe where the close flyby would be?

Thank you and Joseph for another excellent discussion of the very interesting world we are living on.

Okay, I’m out of time, need to go. Just flashed on the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland.

  3. Happy New Year, some great brainstorming in the wrapup.
A tidbit about food and trade: there is a lot of weeping and wailing about Brexit by EU oligarchs and trade deals, but they have long done deals detrimental to European producers. Here in Italy I noticed walnuts, cashews etc. at the local supermarket, sold at a hefty price in little packages: they are from California. Now this type of produce grows in Italy without any problems, I actually have a walnut tree on my land plot. On the one hand, I’m glad that despite spraying and other attacks there is still actually farming in that State. But I did not buy any: who knows what type of pesticides they contain? And above all, what about all that sanctimonious claptrap coming from Brussels about the “carbon footprint” when they import items from 6,000 miles away that are actually grown locally?

    1. Yes, the hypocrisy is off the charts and growing. I just read a special handout on philanthropy sponsored all or in part by Eric Schmidt that came in Barrons. The lead article was about “moonshot” philanthropy – the kind of innovation celebrated with monetary policy destroying a society. Subsequent articles were about the great contributions to society of luxury travel and the private jet industry – including why flying in private jets is more green and sustainable. Justifying the rich seems to be the new literature.

    2. I have come to the conclusion that there is a very high % change that the African swine fever is bio-warfare. I was in the store last week shopping for dental floss and a travel tooth brush. The nearby pharmacy was knocking out tons of drugs – the volume was fightening – and no doubt all I could think about what the quality control stories in China RX (see review) Almost all the floss and tooth brush products were made in China. After reading China RX and watching the covert warfare going on in the South China, I kept thinking, do I really want to use something in my mouth made by someone in a country whose intelligence agencies believe we are responsible for killing 100 MM of their pigs?

Remember – the Chinese knew all about the fraud in the housing bubble before it collapsed.

      1. Can you please expand upon the Chinese knowing all about the fraud in the housing bubble before it collapsed?

  4. “The system is rigged, corrupt and broken” (Trump, 2016). Given such circumstances, how is accountability to be achieved? The US no longer has the rule of law. Obama, Clinton, Biden, Comey, Clapper, etc, etc have not even been indicted, but Flynn is going to jail.
What good is a new political party in a rigged, corrupt and broken system? Not only Procter & Gamble but the entire system needs to be shunned and deprived of our time, energy and money.
    We need a spiritually-driven revolution.

    1. Agree that it needs to be shunned and deprived of our energy. This comes down to spiritual consciousness, transparency, then taxes and investments, then enforcement. If we have a spiritual revolution it must translate into a shift into transparency, then taxes, investments and enforcement, or else it is not a real spiritual revolution. There is a reason that Jesus through the moneychangers out of the temple. 🙂

  5. Miss Catherine, you and Dr Ferrell are always great together. We are blessed to have you guys shining your lights. As you ended dr Ferrell said keep your powder dry. Yep this spiritual war is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better. Population reduction, vax, lab food/GMOs to the moon, mind control they are all tied together. The government is either complacent or helping it all as a puppet of the very wealthy driving the agenda. I would add to Dr Ferrell’s statement of dry powder, add to our skills and strength for this will be a long fought spiritual battle on many fronts. All can help in building the field of shinning lights.

  6. Naturally, Harry and the Snowman is one of my all time favorite movies. When you have as many equine performers as I do, you can’t help but love it and cry through it. A truly remarkable man and horse relationship.
